Once I melted near a luminous lit flame;
Your wild eerie dancing drove me insane.
Saner than you (if that’s possible), but still off an edge,
My hands bled from the bite of a stone’s ledge.
Once the wide-world made sense, chaos wasn’t hidden behind handshakes;
Malice wasn’t driven into conversations at parks —
Watching pelicans congregate or beavers snap their tales.
Once impunity was celebrated, now opposite views glare;
Souls are battered into currency: bitcoin, change, dollars, Euros, pounds.
Once the world lit untamed with humanity,
The purple sky whirled as the hurricanes eye passed.
Crushed elephant-grey prison walls fell, saturated in hate,
The scent, the whisper of pain a shiver, a fear.
Still, sit I and in God I trust, confused, not yet alone —
Trust in God alone — Lord I think you meant it that way.
I’ll never follow those of charcoal fire — I’m a star gleaming in the inky night;
As the fire spreads, I tremble; I’ll run from the winds of ire.
Here I walk in truth, in the pale-orange dawn;
All I know is the end isn’t yet,
Time is short, though never stolen; time waits for all,
Still time, mine or yours, perceptions of sharing aren’t understood.
Here, nothing is ever enough,
So, run while wolverines guard the path.
The northern lights glimmer, the cosmos shining pin lights.
Watch the stars explode, broken nebulas sucked into lost reality;
I’m not yours, no matter what, I choose to be faithful,
God’s grace chose me — not by works, good deeds,
There’s only He who saves.
So, I run quicker than fire, twirl ethereal though ephemeral in the morning;
I’ll fade, rush to joy, sensations painless without hurt,
I stand, let the breeze blow still as a rabbit spotted by a wolf.
When all within feels fragmented, today I’m whole;
Never to be shattered, and it’s okay to be a firefly —
To swim in the echo of nights lost and long ago summer childhood dreams.
