NaPoWriMo Day 1: Photo Challenge – Poem – “Held Dear” #amwritingpoetry

Thanks to NEKNEERAJ for hosting Photo Challenge.

First day of NaPoWriMo 2020. Today. . . write a self-portrait poem in which you make a specific action a metaphor for your life – one that typically isn’t done all that often, or only in specific circumstances. Don’t know if this fits, but we’ll see 🙂 Metaphor: war/battle.

Bop 6, 8, 6 (refrain after the sestets and octave. )

Spirals of energy traverse starlight,

Patterns of luminosity ablaze.

Highway to anything — bliss, serene rest.

Dreams of forever, onward I war;

Slashing forked tongues, words spit, jagged spite.

A warrior learns with prayer, a fire of fright.

Still, cascading streams of water heal, affirm;

Graceful presence, God my fortress ne’er fails.

*****

Jumping through hoops, pointless smattered rules,

Forgiveness, the only beacon in war.

Rest from above, I’m lost and dying;

Yet, You lift me, a thousand times from death.

Battled rage, beach or fields; lights flicker — save,

Rapids pull under; Savior treads for two.

No more do I fear the; reaper’s sharp scythe,

I’m saved, no foe bests His mighty armor.

Still, cascading streams of water heal, affirm;

Graceful presence, God my fortress ne’er fails.

*****

I’ll survive, in His shelter, lay me down,

I’m ne’er lost to monsters, petty crooks.

God guides the faint through cascading circles;

On paths of radiant healing I’m renewed.

Merciful presence, constant strength in war.

Gnashing of teeth and evil surrounds, yet still–

His lanterns glow, lead towards the trail home.

Still, cascading streams of water heal, affirm;

Graceful presence, God my fortress ne’er fails.

Day 9 – Warmth of Light

The light reflects your perspective.

If you change perspective, it changes what you reflect.

You only have to look in the glass and see

The contortion of reality, luminosity bright.
