I used to watch Scandal,
Olivia Pope was a strong woman,
Successful and bright.
For her it was either Fitz or Jake.
She began a bit innocent,
But in the end, she became,
As the monsters she defeated;
Jaded with power.
In the end, she turned back,
Before evil overwhelmed her.
She found Fitz again,
And that was the point:
They got their house in Vermont,
Her father without morals was gone.
And her gladiators under Quinn,
Kept fighting injustice;
Fitz no longer President; his ex-wife now was.
So, in Washington D.C. all ended in the sun.
Then there’s Grey’s Anatomy,
And that’s been 15-years.
Many character changes, but amazing medical cases;
Drama between doctors,
Attendings and medical students,
Patients and other medical workers.
Much learning, practice, memorization, surgery,
Some patients healed, others often died;
Leaving behind wise words, memories;
An aching sadness.
Plot lines left favorite characters dead —
Some beloved.
Plane crashes, a hospital shooter, storms, car accidents, bombs;
Emergencies galore.
Procedures suddenly necessary for doctors or staff;
Those we all thought healed passed.
Love stories begun, ended;
Love stories that still remain.
Meredith and Derek,
My favorite.
Or, Mark and Lexie;
Alex and Jo,
Or in the end, Alex and Izzy.
New characters arrived,
Families expanded,
But, eventually Meradith,
(who mostly narrates),
Realizes that Derek alone isn’t the sun; she is, as well.
Cristina reminds her,
Much later after Derek’s horrible car accident:
It leaves him brain dead,
But he’s still her only true love.
Cristina was her best friend — her person
Later, Alex, but he’s gone too.
She’s the only original medical student left.
Now, we move to movies;
And I couldn’t tell you all my favorites,
Thor, or Ironman,
Batman: Dark Knight,
Chick-Flicks —
PS I Love You,
27 Dresses, and In Her Shoes.
Or, classic —
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof;
Then, The Hunger Games Trilogy,
Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow, Pride and Prejudice,
with Kiera Knightly.
The Sound of Music,
Bed Knobs and Broomsticks,
Too many movies to count.
I think most have much hope;
Action, and romance.
Sometimes too much fighting,
But at times it’s necessary to the story, or the time;
Sometimes, action-adventure is most pleasing,
Or, a light-hearted movie most of all,
Now, favorite books . . .
That’s another story.
