not sure if it’s related but when I removed the widgets for the archive etc, they still show up.

Fixed:
Remove the db collate in your wp-config.php that points to site url.
Then go settings/general/
and type just the name of the addon domain.

Fix found.
I had the mobile version turned on, and hence using % was overruling it.
I turned it off and it is now working.

I also am having this problem directly after using Duplicator plugin.
I deactivated all plugins and that did not fix it.
Sorry for grave digging this coundn’t find any other posts.
