Curiously, it’s not mentioned in the text, but if you look at the picture of the text blocks (in your link), it’s the last one, bottom right.

No plugin. The last one in the list of “text blocks” is “footnotes”. From googling, I believe it exists since 2023.

By the way, I have now added (as a temporary solution) manual “footnotes”, as it were. But that should not be necessary. How to fix the actual footnote feature?
