I have tried several times to update but get the same message. Is this an issue with softaculous? Does the ‘partial-2’ signify anything special; e.g., that the zip file is broken into segments for upload? Will I have to update manually?

    Thank you.

The partial-2 just means that it’s the upgrade from 5.0.2 to 5.0.3. We only send the changes, instead of the whole thing. Faster that way.

The main problem is Could not copy file.: wordpress/wp-includes/js/dist/core-data.js.

This indicates that perhaps you have a file ownership or permissions error. You could attempt a manual upgrade, however you may want to compare that file to other files and see if there is some file ownership differences between them before trying to upgrade it yourself.

Also, check with your host to make sure you’re not (and your host’s server is not) out of free disk space.

Thanks for this. I eventually got WP503 operational with a manual update. Lately I’ve had problems with automatic updates on both my sites – sometimes install failure, sometimes non-fatal warnings. It may be an issue with byethost. When such error messages arise, my host usually suggests manual installation. These typically succeed.

I’d like to know if for manual installations there’s a way round uploading all the material; i.e., whether there’s a simple way of uploading just changed material without each file having to be checked against the new material. The usual advice for manual updates is to completely remove (or overwrite) all of wp-admin and wp-includes.

That is correct, as well as all of the php files in the root of your site, except wp-config.php.
