• I have gone to creating entirely custom themes for my WordPress sites. Should I be updating these in some way for security reasons? If so, how and when

  • You should be updating the themes if you know of any reason to. If there’s no reason to, then don’t update them.

That includes security. While there may be some possible issues, unless you know what those issues actually are, there’s no point doing anything.

Thanks catacaustic! I’m maintaining all my WordPress sites at least twice a week – updating the core and plugins and testing functionality on the contact forms, java scripts, etc. If something goes wrong, I’ll know pretty quickly. As long as there isn’t some kind of regular “shuffling” I need to do to dissuade hackers, it looks like I’m doing everything I need to do.
