Unreliable, site broke often

    I respect the fact the developer has put a lot of time and effort into this tool but our experience with its lack of reliability has made it unusable for us. We’ve had it installed on our site for about a year and we’ve experienced the white screen of death about 4-5 times.

    I can verify it’s the WPO365 plugin due to the fact when I FTP into our server and navigate to /wp-content/plugins/ folder and change the name of the WPO365 folder to “wpo365-login-old” I can access the site again just fine.

    I then can perform updates and other minor tweaks to get things operable. I have worked with the WPO365 team in the past and they have been *excellent* with their support, but the fact the plugin is unreliable over time and we’re using it in an environment where I need reliable access control means it’s not a serviceable long-term solution for Office365 access control.

    I applaud the developers for spending the time working on the product and would be happy to continue working with them to iron out any bugs as there aren’t many options for tying together WP & Office365, but for now the search continues.

    Thank you @a305587. I agree that is has been a difficult year, trying to make the plugin work in so many scenarios. The WordPress ecosystem is extremely varied with WordPress running on Windows, Linux, PHP 4.x, 5.x and 7.x and with all kinds of customizations interfering and most of all server-side caching extensions often preventing the plugin from working correctly. On top of that Microsoft has pressed forward with their “new” application registration portal in May 2019, making a re-registration of your application in Azure AD necessary – which is indeed was a major breaking change.

    I do think that the current version is the most stable one so far and agree that it has been a bumpy ride. Functionally the current version shall not change too much because – as demonstrated by your review – too much is tiresome!

    I appreciate your honest feedback but do not fully understand why you choose to circumvent your thoughts here when you write that you are willing to iron out any bugs. This seems a contradictio in terminis. Unfortunately your review is anonymous so we cannot look back at any of the support cases, but I’m sure that we would have found a way forward that is agreeable for both of us.

But unfortunately that is not proofing that it’s the WPO365 plugin. It is proofing that the WPO365 plugin in combination with one of your many other customizations (and there are a lot on your system – if I look at your comment and review history) is not working as expected. The correct way to verify something is wrong would have been to disable all plugins and then enable the WPO365 plugin and verify that an error occurs indeed. I think you are using the DIVI theme building set and I have seen previous issues with this specific customization.
