I am attempting to perform an export from a subsite on a multisite network and receive the following error message: “An unknown error occured”
That’s strange, it’s working in my multisite test environment. Can you please try using the instructions at https://wordpress.org/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/#example-wp-config-php-for-debugging to log the error and let us know what you find?

These are the errors I have found related to the plugin:
