    I’m learning Gutenberg.
    I’m unable to group blocks.
    Wp 5.5
I’ve tried Astra Pro. Kadence, GeneratePress
    Firefox latest, and Chrome (MAC
I’ve tried both “Top toolbar” checked and unchecked.-
I can’t move a selected block. I tried using Shift, and as well as a
    plethora of other keyword shortcuts.
    Frustrating Fun it is.
    Check out the VDO
I did use the ‘move’ and it worked once, but haven’t been able to duplicate it.
At this time, there’s no way to group. Appreciate any suggestions.

Yes, the block editor can be frustrating. It looks like you’ve made groups, it’s just that each only contains one block. You can add more blocks within a group, but it’s hard to tell when you click the ‘+’ whether it’s to add in the group or below the group. It’s hard to even find the right ‘+’ on roll over. The UI needs work, but it does work.

If you want to move a block outside the group to within the group, use the “Move to” submenu item. It can also move blocks anywhere else in the document. The up/down arrows in the popup bar will move over the whole group or within the group, depending on the origin, but they will not move in or out of a group.

It seems the editor is working the way it should, but not the way you expected. Now that the active block is no longer outlined it’s even harder to tell what’s what. I’ve sometimes resorted to using the code view to understand what’s going on. Not a good option if you don’t know HTML coding though.

    Hi bcworkz,
First, thank you for your reply.
I fixed the problem. I used installed my 5.4.2 backup and
I’m happy as a clam at high tide.

I’m following the Git Hub? The place where there’s a more in-depth discussion on how to fix this terrible 5.5 UI problem.

This is my first week with the Gutenberg Editor (GE) and trying to work with the 5.5 was so frustrating and yes, infuriating! Searching on this amazing forum I found the suggestion that using a 5.4.2 backup will bring back the ease of using the GE. I have to tell you, “Wow! what a wonderful editor it is (the 5.4.2).” I’m completely mystified how the good developers made a mess of 5.5. Reminds me of the time when Coca-cola introduced their “New Coca-cola”– everyone hated it and Coke had a PR disaster on their hands, they smartly brought back the “classic coke”.

Hopefully, the good developers will fix this 5.5 fiasco soon. Looking forward to a long productive future with GE.
