Too Many Redirects

After upgrading to 5.7 I get a too many redirects error. If I disable the plugin by renaming the folder the site comes back up. Do I have to change an settings or something?

Hi @fencer04,
I haven’t heard any reports of redirect loops on 5.7, and haven’t seen this issue on our own sites.
I see you use CloudFlare, can you check this article to see if your setup is according to our recommendations?
https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/ssl-cloudflare-really-simple-ssl/I am having this issue with a brand new install of WordPress, and it’s the only site of the 20 or so I maintain that is running 5.7. Other sites using prior versions of WP are not experiencing this issue.
On the problem site, https://topknotchcabo.com/, no plugins are active, and the active theme is Twenty Twenty-One. After installing WP, I added a blank page and a blank post just to make sure everything is kosher. Got a redirect error.
Deleted cookies and cleared browsing history. Redirect still there.
Deleted the database, deleted WordPress, and reinstalled the whole ball o’ wax. Still getting the re-direct loop.
Any other ideas?
Hi @ccadmin2,
I just tested this with WordPress 5.7, on an empty setup, no plugins, twenty one theme, and installed and activated Really Simple SSL. I didn’t encounter any issues with a redirect loop.
I just checked your site, but didn’t get a redirect loop at the moment. Are you still experiencing issues?
The issue was not using Full SSL with Cloudflare. Thank you for the help!
Great, thanks for posting your solution!
Hi @rogierlankhorst, On Friday, I deleted the site (database first, the entire WP installation next), and then re-installed it. I did NOTHING after installing — all clean and fresh. On Saturday, all looked fine. Today, the redirect error is back and my client thinks I’m an idiot. I have no idea what to do.
I installed the Simple SSL Plug-In, However, it is giving me a resting API error, and making my site super slow, I try Deactivating the Plugin, but it gives me too many redirect errors. maybe you have a possible solution for this, my site is very slow.
@ccadmin2 a redirect loop occurs when a redirect to http:// and https:// are active at the same time. This can be fixed by locating and removing the redirect to http://. For the most common causes and solutions to a redirect loop see https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/my-website-is-in-a-redirect-loop/
@tagliafico1 what REST error do you see exactly? Could you send us a screenshot of the error you are seeing? You could try if enabling the .htaccess redirect option in the Settings->SSL menu improves your site speed. The .htaccess redirect is generally the fastest redirect option.
The REST API encountered an error
Performance
The REST API is one way WordPress, and other applications, communicate with the server. One example is the block editor screen, which relies on this to display, and save, your posts and pages. The REST API request failed due to an error.
Error: cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 10058 milliseconds with 0 bytes received (http_request_failed)this is the specific error massage, thank you for the soon reply
Hi @tagliafico1,
a cURL error is usually caused by an outdated version of cURL/PHP. This issue can be fixed by your hosting provider. Also see https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/curl-errors/
Since it was a brand new site, and very little work had been done on it, I had the host delete the domain completely, and then reload it. Installed WP again from nothing, and voila. All is well. Weird.
Hi @ccadmin2,
Glad to hear it was resolved. Possibly there was something not right in the way the hosting provider set it up. We’ll probably never know…
