“tmptitle” failure when processing large posts.

    Hello Wayne, hope you’re doing ok.

    I’ve got a user trying to post “large” posts (~20Mb).

    Postie looks to be crashing, just a bunch of “tmptitle”/”tmppost” entries.

    Memory on the server is 512MB, wordpress is allocated 256MB.

    Max upload is 32MB, max post is 64MB.

    Hi Wayne:

    You’ve been assisting me for 16 days on the issue of Postie no longer functioning on my WordPress installation hosted by Hostcentric.

    I came across this forum post by ghawblin and realized it sounds familiar. In addition to the website crashes we are experiencing when executing a Process Email or Debug – the “teptitle” postings that ghawblin describes above also appear in our log of posts.

    I had presumed that these were testing attempts by the tech support people at Hostcentric; however, upon looking at the Author field for each, it attributes them to me! And each corresponds to an attempt to post via Postie, even though the system crashes and locks me out.

    I hope adding this information to the forum is helpful to us all.

    @ghawblin The max file size is directly related to the amount of memory allocated to PHP. See http://postieplugin.com/faq/fatal-error-memory/

    @wavggg This may or may not be related to your issue. Getting logs would be key to you situation.

    Gotcha, the issue doesn’t seem to be max file size, since my PHP memory is 256mb.

    If I do some test posts with 1 or 2 pictures and some text, no big deal, posts as expected. When you start including like 6 pictures with all sorts of formatting postie crashes.

    Not sure what to do at this point :c

    Update.

    Made a test post with a 23Mb file, larger than the post crashing postie, and it posted no problem.

    Looks like postie is crashing with heavily formatted emails.

    Please install the Support AddOn and send a email through that causes problems. http://postieplugin.com/downloads/support-addon/

    Just processed the trouble email with postie + support addon and got the error.

    Unfortunately there wasn’t an email waiting when the log was captured. Please try setting it to capture 5 or more email checks and send the email through again.

    There are still no emails in the logs. If you look at the postie.log file in the email the support addon sends out you can see that 0 email were available to process.

    Hm. It created the dummy posts on my site and cleared the email from my web mail.

    Let me try one more time.

    reinstalled and activated Postie Support
    running Test-15

    verified connection (see below)
    ran debug
    sat for 15 seconds saying, “waiting for pixel.wp.com” (it used to say waiting for http://www.gallantgoose.com)
    locked up so my firefox browser lost connection with the server
    reported:

    File not found
    Firefox can’t find the file at https://www.gallantgoose.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=postie-settings.
    Check the file name for capitalization or other typing errors.
    Check to see if the file was moved, renamed or deleted.

    I anticipate there will be another mystery posting called “tmptitle” as soon as the server resets and I can log back in (maybe 5-10 min)…

    same results since March 12/13 – all as before….

    Test 15 DID produce another mystery post named “tmptitle” even though it crashed
    the content of the post (as all previous) is one word – “tmpPost”

    now running Test-15.1
    (text only – fewer words than Test-15)

    verified connection (see below)
    ran debug
    immediately began processing
    produced debug report (see at bottom) – did not lock up

    In the PREVIOUS debug.log (Test 15.2) – I saw things which appeared to be messed up with regard to your variables… it looked like it was placing the email text in those fields – MUCH TOO MUCH!

    I WILL FORWARD YOU A COPY OF TEST-15.2 AND TEST-15.3 SO YOU CAN SEE THE MINIMAL DIFFERENCE IN CONTENT.
