I am very interested in this plugin for a key scenario I have for my site. However, I always like to understand any dependency I take and have noticed that a good number of posts have gone unanswered, in some cases for weeks. It looks to be an excellent plugin but slightly concerned about not being able to get answers if/when I happen to need them.

Is there perhaps another location for support or is there maybe a “Pro” version that would afford me a more direct support channel? Eager to learn more because, as I say, this looks like a tremendous plugin.

    Thank you.

  • I’m facing same issues, I’ve posted a question almost month before which hasn’t been answered yet, luckily I was able to figure out and fix that part by myself. There is lack of support + plugin hasn’t been updated since 8 months and WORDPRESS has put notice on this plugin main page.

Warning: This plugin has not been tested with your current version of WordPress.

If there is any pro version where we can get timely support + get assurity regarding the compatibility of future WP versions that would be great!

There is no doubt this is a great plugin and Mr. Bill has done tremendous job!

Yes, I agree about the plugin, with the functionality and design of looking good. That said, I research any dependency I take as a “managed / informed risk”, so knowing we can get a response in a reasonable timeframe is important. This would be particularly relevant, for example, if a security vulnerable was discovered.

I am also interested in alternatives that might be out there (with a distinct and responsive support channel), in case anyone knows of any. I just stumbled upon Display Posts last week and hope to use it, pending me getting comfortable with being able to get responses in a reasonable timeframe. The ones that have been hanging out there for a month or more are the ones that caught my attention.

Unfortunately I cannot promise timely responses to support requests. I only go through the support forum when I have downtime between client projects, which is not very often.

About a year ago I explored the idea of a premium, paid version of Display Posts. I included an admin notice with a link to a survey asking for feedback from users. 90% of users said they wouldn’t pay for the plugin, and the other 10% said they’d be willing to pay $5-10 one time. I can’t build a sustainable business on that, so I decided to keep the plugin free with minimal support.

This plugin is simply a shortcode interface for a core WordPress feature (WP_Query) so it should always be compatible with future versions of WordPress. If WordPress were to ever remove WP_Query or change how it works, the vast majority of WordPress websites would be broken, so it’s unlikely an update will ever be needed for future compatibility. The only updates we need to make are to add support for new features added to WP_Query, like support for date queries we added in 2014.

Because this plugin also runs on WordPress.com / WordPress VIP, the WordPress security team at Automattic help ensure there are no security vulnerabilities. After the first security audit and patch back in 2012 (sanitizing attributes), there have been no additional patches for security required.

If your concern is security and support for future versions of WordPress, rest assured that this plugin will not have any security issues and will continue to work with every future version of WordPress – even without any new plugin updates.

If your desire is timely support for help customizing this plugin to your particular needs, then you will likely be disappointed by my response time.

Well, that makes perfect sense to me! Thank you for the explanation on this!

Maybe creating Pro (paid) version of this plugin might encourage users to purchase a license if they want extra features/ support while leaving this plugin as is? 🙂
