• I’m not sure how the subcategories are supposed to work, but they are definitely not working for me. On the referenced page, I have a library that includes “Department of Labor” and “ERISA.” It works perfectly well as is. However, if I make “ERISA” a subcategory of “Department of Labor,” the page shows only the following message: Fatal error: Unknown: Cannot use output buffering in output buffering display handlers in Unknown on line 0 This is true regardless of whether I leave ERISA in that library, or remove it.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hmm… Actually, did you try selecting both the parent and child companies? You should only be selecting the parent category if one is a sub-category of the other and both will display.

I tried it both ways–selecting both parent and child, and selecting only the parent. When I select only the parent, I get a completely blank page, not even the above message.

Is the parent a top-level category, or is the parent in this case already a sub-category?

Today I tried to add a parent category. The child category still works, but parent displays:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home2/darzbori/public_html/wp-includes/taxonomy.php on line 236

The parent category is one of top categories.
So I removed that parent category from child category.

So right now they are both top categories to make them work.
    The former parent category contains:

    [link-library-cats settings=1 categorylistoverride="284,273,..."]
    [link-library settings=1 descoverride=1 categorylistoverride="284,273,..."]
    [link-library-addlink]

    The child one:

    [link-library-cats categorylistoverride="279,264,..."]
    [link-library descoverride=1 categorylistoverride="279,264,..."]
    [link-library-addlink]

settings=1 was added in the past only for test purposes.
The former parent category doesn’t contain the ID of the former child category and vice versa.

The parent (Department of Labor) is a top category. If ERISA is also a top level category, and I put them both into the same library (Library 6), it all works fine. However, if I make ERISA a subcategory of Department of Labor, the page breaks–regardless of whether I leave ERISA in Library 6 or remove it from Library 6.

Any further word on this? The problem still exists, even after several updates.

I did not have time to investigate this issue over the week-end. I plan to look into it this evening when I get back home from work.

Hi Carol, I have been trying to find what is generating that output buffering error and the only thread I can find online are related to a caching plugin called W3 Total Cache. Are you using this plugin on your site? If so, could you try either clearing your cache, or deactivating that caching plugin temporarily and seeing if you are still having issues.

Darek, you should have a single page with

    [link-library-cats settings=1 categorylistoverride=”284,273,…”]
    [link-library settings=1 descoverride=1 categorylistoverride=”284,273,…”]
    [link-library-addlink]

And the category list should list the categories of the parents, and this should display both the parent and children categories.

No, I’m not using any caching program. I could give you an admin login, if that would be helpful to see what I have there.

Hi Carol, do you think you could export one of your library configurations and e-mail it to me at ylefebvre at gmail?

Sure! I just sent it to you.
