Stringlist (captcha code) too long by default

First off, I’m a user, not a developer so I don’t know whether or not this can be done by you you guys or the website I’m trying to register for.
The captcha pictures always show a maximum of seven character, but the string length is eight characters long by default, which will prevent any user from registering.
