• When I generate QR codes, I notice that longer URL results in more complex result.

However, when I use your plugin with a short URL, it still results in a complex result. Is there a way for your plugin to create a QR code that looks closer to the first example?

    Hello,
what do you mean by “complex result”?

If you mean the texture of the QR code image, it depends also on the level of error correction of the image generation process, and the plugin uses the highest level allowed by the imaging library, which ensures correct results even with 30% data loss when reading.

Yes exactly, by complex I am referring to the texture: how many dots are generated inside the barcode; you see that a short URL has less dots and a complex URL has more dots when I am using an online QR code generator.

The benefit to a simple QR code is that it scans faster than a more complex QR code.

Even when I use a short URL, your plugin creates complex / QR codes with more dots. Is it possible to create simpler QR codes with less dots?

Currently the plugin uses the most safe settings, in order to ensure working even if the qr code image is partially ruined or the scanning conditions are not the best ones.
Data redundancy enlarges the amout of pixels of the image, so the texture can be complex with short URL too.

We value your suggestion and we’ll plan to add the option to select the errors correction level in a future version of the plugin.

Appreciate your quick response. I want to say that your plugin is very powerful and I really thank you for your work. I am using dynamic QR codes generated by your plugin for an art project and unfortunately, the data redundancy feature of the QR code makes them too complex to use with my art project — I really need a simpler QR code in order for it to work. Depending on how much you charge, would you be willing to add this feature to your plugin right away? I might be willing to pay a small fee if you are willing.

An expected behavior would be perhaps something like a UI slider for the error correction / data redundancy level that users can adjust. As they move the slider, the correction increases or decreases, and renders the QR code differently. Let me know what you think of something like this.

If you need a quick solution to your problem we suggest using a third-party library to generate the image: all you need is to copy the QR-URL (you can find it just above the image on the Edit page) and paste it into the qr code image generator that best meets your request. It will work.

The problem is that your plugin generates a dynamic QR code, where as the QR Code image generators I find online are static ones. I want to be able to leverage the features of a dynamic QR code; I just want to make it more simple. Can you advise?

The plugin works regardless of what generated the image, we added the image creation feature just for users’ convenience.
Everything will work correctly if the QR-URL will be included in the image of a qr code created with any tool: the dynamism of the QR code lies in the qr code + plugin system, that is, it’s the plugin to make dynamic the qr code.

So what you’re saying is, that if I take the QR URL and turn it into a simple QR code like I am trying to achieve, with any online QR code generator, I will be able to change any of the settings your plugin provides to me at a later time?

E.g. let’s say I want to change the website linked to the QR-URL generated by your QR code plugin and used to generate a simple QR code with another generator. Will this simple QR code from the other generator still work?

You’ll see that the QR URL is also pretty long, and equally results in a more complex QR code. What else would you suggest?

Yes, you will be able to change any option of the Plugin regarding the dynamicity of the qr code, as for instance the page displayed after scanning the qr code image.

“You’ll see that the QR URL is also pretty long, and equally results in a more complex QR code. What else would you suggest?”
You can use a tool that allows you to choose the level of error correction: setting a low level will reduce the complexity of the texture.
Another thing you can do is to use a tool that shortens the QR-URL and then to embed the shortened version into your qr code image: this will adds a further redirecting, but also will reduce the image complexity.

Thankfully I have figured it out using a URL shortener, as you mentioned. Its a WordPress plugin that generates them for me automatically. And thankfully, I am still able to change the URL of the QR code if necessary.

It seems the result of this means that the plugin doesn’t track any results in the “Scan Logs” section. Does the scan only get logged if users scan the actual barcode? It does not count if user visits QR URL?

A log record is inserted when a browser requests the QR-URL.
The plugin doesn’t know in which way the browser got that url.
