Shortcode Not Working?

I saw this from xnau when trying to figure out why my filter shortcode was not working:

That makes me wonder if the syntax of the shortcode is incorrect. Have you tried setting up the shortcode in “text” mode? Sometimes visual mode changes the characters (such as making straight quotes curly).

Sure enough when I manually typed the shortcode instead of pasting it in it miraculously worked.
