Hello @websiteguyjh,
Thanks for reaching out. Just to clarify, are you looking to:
- Restrict access to all posts within a specific custom post type for certain roles, or
- Apply restrictions at a more detailed level, such as individual posts or fields (for example, with ACF)?
Knowing this will help me point you toward the best setup in Members (and whether you’d need any addons or additional configuration).
Looking forward to your reply so we can guide you in the right direction.
Best regards,
Trying to: Restrict access to all posts within a specific custom post type for certain roles
Hi @websiteguyjh,
That’s a great question! <span style=”box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;”>Currently, Members doesn’t have a way to restrict an entire custom post type to specific</span> roles.
However, if you’re running MemberPress, you can do this pretty easily with the Rules. Rules allow you to protect entire content types (such as custom post types), so you don’t need to set restrictions on each post.
Hope that helps point you in the right direction!
Best,
Okay, thanks for that. If that’s the case, can I please get clarification on what exactly the ACF addon does?
Hi @websiteguyjh,
Great follow-up question!
The Members – ACF Integration add-on doesn’t restrict entire post types. Instead, what it does is create custom capabilities for the Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) plugin. That way, you can manage which roles have permission to do things like add, edit, or delete ACF field groups through the Members plugin.
So in short:
- Restricting whole custom post types → would require MemberPress Rules.
- Managing permissions for ACF itself → is what the Members – ACF Integration add-on is for.
Hope that clears it up!
Best,
