restore failed, HELP

    ive manually dragged the files to the retore features in wordpress plugin, i then tried to FTP the files to the directory it says to FTP to…all good…the files are there..BUT when i go to restore the files, hvae tried 5 times everytime it fails.

    Ok thank you. It fails with a 503 status code, which typically occurs when the server is overloaded. This could be due to insufficient server resources. We will create a custom version that includes a sleep interval between each batch of file replacements and adds debug tracking. This should resolve the issue or at least provide more information about the root cause, enabling us to address it effectively. We will let you know here when it is ready.

    bad news…didnt get very far. i dragged the file into the “drag area” then got this error message. Hope this is a faster process…cant afford to go back and forth very much. say s”invalid backup” uoload file is not a valid backup, we removed the file from the server. HELP me Nick! what time zone are you?

    Hi mjbberesford,

    Thank you for your update — I see where the confusion happened.

    It looks like you uploaded the file we shared into the Upload backup file drag & drop area. That area is only for uploading backup files, not plugin files. That’s why you received the “invalid backup” error.

    The file we provided is a custom plugin version, so it needs to be installed as a plugin, not uploaded as a backup.

    Please follow these exact steps:

    1. Go to your WordPress admin dashboard
    2. Navigate to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin
    3. Click Choose File and select the ZIP file we shared
    4. Click Install Now
    5. When prompted, choose “Replace current with uploaded”
    6. After installation, go back and try the restore process again

    Once you’ve done this, please run the restore again.

    If it still fails, kindly share the new debug code so we can investigate further.

    • Your files and database were restored
    • The process reached 100% and finalized correctly

    The “restore failed” message you’re seeing is caused by a 503 server error during the final cleanup step, where temporary files are being removed. This step is resource-intensive (in your case ~24k files), and your server likely timed out during this operation.

    Additionally, we can see that multiple plugins failed to activate automatically. This is usually due to plugin conflicts or server limitations during activation.

    What to do next

    1. Please go to Plugins → Installed Plugins

    2. Manually activate your plugins one by one

      * If any plugin causes an error, that will help identify the issue

      3. Check your site frontend and admin dashboard — it should already be restored

        Important

        At this point, your site is very likely already restored, and the error message is misleading due to the final cleanup step failing.

        If you notice anything missing or broken, please let us know and share an updated debug code you can do that by going to the site where you experienced issues and open our plugin settings.

        Hi @mjbberesford,

        The good news is that you already have the full list of plugins from your previous site in the reply you shared before — the ones shown in the logs are exactly the plugins that failed to activate automatically during the restore.

        How to restore them quickly

        1. Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins in your WordPress dashboard
        2. You should see all plugins listed there (most of them will currently be inactive)
        3. Use the list below as a reference and start activating them one by one

        Important tip

        Please activate them one at a time, not all at once.

        • If a plugin activates normally → move to the next
        • If activating a plugin causes an error or crashes the site → that plugin is likely the issue

        Why this is needed

        During the restore, your server likely couldn’t handle activating all plugins at once, so the process skipped them to avoid a fatal crash.
