Option 1: if your plan is to have your site set up using WordPress.com service – then get in touch with https://wordpress.com/support/ for guidance. (to use plugins, you will likely need to purchase a business plan)

Option 2: if your plan is to purchase your own hosting plan and use WordPress software – here’s a basic overview of suggested process for option 2:

    • purchase a new webhosting plan + SSL certificate + automated backup system
    • move all of the database and files of your site into your new webhosting plan (you might find a tool like All in one Migration plugin to be helpful)
    • disconnect your domain name from the old webhosting plan and connect it to your new webhosting plan.

It is not uncommon to have domain registration and webhosting plan at different companies. However, if you want to change the way your site is hosted, you have access to the database and files, and you are the owner of the domain name, you can make that happen.
