It would be incredibly helpful if the customizable pieces of code in the sample custom_metadata_examples.php were highlighted as a reference.

Is there a reason nobody does it?

Thanks for the feedback. The examples are actually somewhat outdated. I’ll make sure to review and update them and make them more prominent in an upcoming release.
