I’m trying out Give and I like the look of it.

However, when I click ‘donate now’ and go to Paypal I get the message ‘Data does not match input character set or default encoding. For more information, please contact the merchant.’

I’ve read the documentation and searched online for a solution, without luck. Any help very welcome.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hey @sambackontrack – that’s the first I’ve heard of that issue. After some Googling I’ve found that it has to do with what the error obviously says, character encoding. It seems like it’s not being sent over via UTF-8 format on your server.

I found this solution that may work:

    1. Log into your PayPal account
    2. Go to your profile
    3. Under the selling preferences column, select Language Encoding
    4. Make sure your website language is set to Western European Languages
    5. Click the more options button
    6. Make sure encoding is set to UTF-8.
    7. Then save settings

Try that out and see if it works. If not, we can take a closer look.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I followed the steps as suggested, but unfortunately it didn’t fix the problem. The thing is, we already have links to Paypal on our site and they work fine, so it can’t really be an issue with the Paypal language settings.

But if nobody else has had the problem, then it’s clearly not Give causing the issue either. So I’m very confused!

Hi @sambackontrack — I’d be happy to continue troubleshooting this with you. But the link you provided does not have a Give form on it. Can you create a new Give form and maybe insert it on a page via our shortcode so it’s not available via your menu but you can provide me with the URL?

It’s on this published page via a shortcode: http://www.backontrackmanchester.org.uk/draft-donate-page/

Here is our existing donate page with the buttons to PayPal that work ok. http://www.backontrackmanchester.org.uk/donate/

Thanks for your help; it’s much appreciated

There doesn’t seem to be a donation form on that page. This is all I see:
