Good questions, especially since you’ve obviously already thought about how to proceed.
You can find general instructions for migrating WordPress projects here: https://developer.wordpress.org/advanced-administration/upgrade/migrating/#moving-to-a-new-server
If you want to use UpdraftPlus for this, take a look at their guide: https://teamupdraft.com/documentation/updraftplus/topics/migration/faqs/how-to-migrate-a-wordpress-site-with-updraftplus/ – If you have any questions, it’s best to contact their support forum: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/updraftplus/
Here you will find a list of possible maintenance plugins: https://wordpress.org/plugins/tags/maintenance/
And yes, Elementor has its own. Here are their instructions for this: https://elementor.com/help/maintenance-mode/ – If you have any questions, please contact their support forum: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/elementor/
Hi, since you are a newbie, I would recommend this plugin for quick and easy maintenance mode. Elementor has its own, but I think you might have to fiddle with it a bit:
Having done many migrations, I would recommend Duplicator plugin. It will make a backup and allow you to download 2 files. You then upload these 2 fines on your main site’s root folder and it will guide you through the installation. This plugin does not require you to have anything pre-installed on the new site (other than a new database, of course) so you can actually do this as soon as you buy the new hosting.
Another easy migration plugin is the AIO Migration. With this plugin, you need WordPress pre-installed on the new site and the plugin installed on both. Plugin on the old site will create a backup and then you download this and upload on the new site.
There are many ways to do this and I am sharing the 2 plugins I have used before. Let me know if you face any difficulties.

Hi @shreyans
Once you have installed wordpress on the new site, does it matter if i have already installed the plugins that I would be using? E.g. would there be a “clash” if the migrated site included plugins that were already installed?
That said, the only plugin that I can think will be installed on the destination site would be the Maintenance plugin.
many thanks!
Unfortunately, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to whether the scenario you described will cause problems. It depends primarily on how you migrate the pages – some methods literally overwrite everything in the destination system, so it doesn’t matter at all which plugins you already have there. However, if the new content is actually added without overwriting existing content, it depends heavily on exactly what is being migrated. If there are plugins that aren’t compatible with each other, error messages may occur. But given all the conditions that need to be met, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Just give it a try.
Hi @savo76
I can only talk about my experience with the Duplicator and AIO Migration plugins. With the AIO Migration plugin, it won’t clash like you have mentioned. But, it will replace/overwrite everything that you have on the new site. So if you have made changes on the new site, everything will be gone. With Duplicator plugin, you do not even have to install WP on the new site. There are videos on Youtube that you can refer for both plugins.
