I have forked this plugin and fixed a few issues that I was experiencing. Note: this fork changes some of the default values.

I have also contacted WordPress.org about becoming a contributor for this plugin since the author does not appear to be reachable anymore.

Nice fork – I was just looking to do the same, but you beat me to it. If you now have access to contribute to this plugin, would you please place an updated version here, on the plugin repository? That way, the fix can be pushed to all the currently installations.
