Hi there,
How do I translate “Be the first to like this” into German?
I understand that you are referring to the notice that you see by the Jetpack Like button if there a no likes registered. Have I understood that correctly?
This phrase should get automatically translated for you as your site’s language is set to German. Could you point me to the URL where it still appears in English?
If you do not want to post it publicly feel free to contact us via this contact form and mention this thread.
Thank you!

Hello,
for example: https://www.freunde-des-eichtalparks.de/2025/02/kunstausstellungen-1-halbjahr-2025/
When I search in the translation files with Loco Translate, the expression “Be the first to like this.” is not included.
Hello there,
In order for this to be translated you’ll need to set your WordPress language to German/Dutch. You can do that from your WP Admin Dashboard by going to Settings → General and changing the Site Language.More details here: https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/settings-general-screen/
It’s possible that you’ll need to do a hard refresh on some of the pages for the language to update.
Let us know how it goes.
Warm regards,
That does not work. I have set the language to German in the settings.
I have deleted the Safari cache. And refreshed the website. And even reopened it in a new tab.
I also reopened the website in Firefox and Chrome.
No translation into German.
Now it works. I don’t know why. But only with unformal German. Formal German is not translated.
But now I have the problem that with unformal German and translated “Like” text, the text for “Read more” is no longer translated into “Weiterlesen”, but remains in English.
The website only contained the translated formal German files from Jetpack.
I have now switched to unformal German, which translates the Like text.
But even if I copy the translated unformal German files from Jetpack from another WP installation into the existing one, “Read more” is not translated.
I have solved the problem.
It occurred to me that the read more function is provided by the Sydney theme. So this is not included in the Jetpack language files.
I have now copied the language files for unformal German from the existing WP installation to the other WP installation.
Now the “Read more” button is correctly translated into “Weiterlesen”.
Hi there, @thobie,
Thanks for the messages and for sharing what you have been testing in order to adjust the German translations for Jetpack.
