    After getting to the screen “All right, sparky! You’ve made it through this part of the installation. WordPress can now communicate with your database. If you’re ready, time now to run the install.” I click “Run the Install” and get this:

    PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘.’ in E:\USERS\username\www\blog\wp-includes\user.php on line 509

    Where have I gone wrong?

    you got a windows server. Must not be configured correctly – ask your host.
