• Hi,

Since the latest update to version 2.2.4, image encoding is broken.

When the option “plain emails by converting them to png images” is checked, the images appear broken.

I have a staging site which I cann privately share.

    Cheers,
    Gray

    Hi Grey

If you can send us access to the stage site that would be very helpful. Can you give access to the email support@wpemailencoder.com

Can you also email a link to the page and we will then take a look and create a fix

    Hi,

    Thanks for your response.
I’ve sent you an email with a link where you can see the error.

    Cheers,

    Hi Gray

We pushed an update live with a fix, can you give it a try and let us know if you have any issues.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your quick response.
Your update fixed the plain text email!

However, if you check out the same staging page again(I’ve updated there), you can see an issue I didn’t originally explicitly report, that the second sample email that does have a mailto link is actually completely invisible on the frontend. The previous behavior with my current setting is that these would also display encoded email images. So, I think there is still an issue with emails that have mailto links.

Happy to provide any feedback needed.

    Cheers,
    Gray

    Hi Gray

Thanks for providing so much detail, it really helps us and is appreciated.

We tested this by creating the page:
    https://www.democompanyy.com/email-protection/

It works as it should for us and we cannot replicate the issue.
The only “problem” we noticed was caching – after switching from email-as-image and regular text – we had to clear cache on WP to display it.

Could you add access for us using the email support@wpemailencoder.com on that stage site and we can try and see what is different in your settings. I can instead provide you a login to our demo site if you like and you can try and break our one instead?

    Hi,

I’ve now sent access on the original email.
I’ve already tried activating the default twenty-twenty-five theme and it still occurs.

Hope you are able find the cause!
    Cheers,
    Gray

Just a quick update to let you know we have found the issue is to do with an incompatibility with plugin WPforms and we are working on a fix.

    Hi @grayscale,

Apologies for the long wait on this one.

Version 2.4.8 has just been released with a fix for the issue you reported. It turned out the problem wasn’t limited to WPForms: any time a mailto link wraps the email address in surrounding HTML (which WPForms does, but so do page builders like Divi and Elementor), our image generator was receiving the wrapped markup instead of the bare email, which produced an empty image. The plugin now extracts the email from wrapped markup before generating the image, so those emails should display correctly again.

Could you update to 2.4.8 on your staging site and let us know how it looks? If anything is still off, please send through your Copy Support Info (from the plugin sidebar in admin) along with the page source of an affected email and we’ll take another look.

    Thanks, Josh
