• Hi, I chose Alara to style my website but I have a problem with the header, on the main page it works just fine but on all other pages the design is different and I can’t change the default picture. I don’t really mind about the design being different than on the main page but I would like to be able to change the default picture and put the picture I want on my header instead. I hope what I’m saying is clear, thank you for your help and have a good day.

Hi, the domain/page you submitted in the ‘link to the page you need help with’ is hidden behind a “coming soon” landing page, so I’m unable to see your website.

Without seeing the site I can take a guess that you may have created two different headers, so one page template is using header A and another page template is using header B.
Or maybe even removed the header from one page template with header-like content added directly in the page template, and then another page template using the main header template part.

Does any of these scenarios sound like what may have happened?

Without being able to see your site, I can only take educated guesses. If you could make your site live that would be great as I could take a look and would likely be able to see the issue straight away.

Hi, yes I’m sorry, I just made it live. From your scenarios I would say it looks like it’s more similar to the first one, but it seems like I can’t edit the header B, so could you help me putting the header A in all of my pages please?
    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for making your site live.

The main page is using the Index template, and this template uses the Header Standard template part which is the header that you have edited to design your header.

It looks you have individually set each of the other pages to display using the Page with Header Cover template, and this template uses the Header Cover template part by default.

What you can do is change each of your other pages to display using the standard Page template, as this template also uses the same header as the Index template by default.

Alternatively you could edit the Header Cover template part to style it the same or similar as the standard header.

Hi, thanks for your help. I changed every single one of my pages to standard page template but now every one of my pages appear the same as my home page

It looks like you may have added the page content directly into the page template, so all pages are displaying the same content from the template.

Make sure you have the “Post Content” block somewhere on the page template, as this is the block that pulls in the content from each individual page.

How do I change the page template ?

After taking another look at your site, it looks like you may have possibly edited the Header template part and inserted these blocks in the Header:

1 – another Header template part nested inside the main header
2 – followed by a Columns block which contains a spacer block
3 – a Paragraph block with the “Un petit tour ?” text
    4 – a Jetpack gallery block

I’m guessing that you have inadvertently added parts 2, 3 and 4 into the header, rather than in the page content of the homepage, when you only want these parts to be displayed on your homepage?

The result of this is that because 2, 3 and 4 are in the Header they are displayed on every page.

But when I personalize the theme, its changes the entirety of my home page so I have to put them into the header otherwise my home page is empty

In the admin dashboard go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Reading’ and where its says “Your homepage displays”, have you got this set to ‘Your latest posts’?

If so, this displays your latest posts on the homepage by default and so you have added the content to the header so that it is displayed on the homepage.

I would recommend that you create a new page and name it something like “Home” for your reference. Add the content to the page in the page editor so it displays on this new page only.

Then in the admin dashboard go back to ‘Settings’ > ‘Reading’ and for the “Your homepage displays” setting select ‘A static page (select below)’ and from the ‘Homepage’ dropdown select the new page (named “Home” in the example above) that you created as your homepage.

Next go to the site editor at ‘Appearance’ > ‘Editor’ and remove the extra content from the header template part.

Now the content that you only want on the homepage will only display on the homepage and not in the header of every page.

    I’m sorry but I can’t find it

What can’t you find? The homepage displays setting?

In your site’s WordPress admin dashboard there are links running down the left sidebar like so:
    Posts
    Media
    Pages
    Comments
    Appearance
    Plugins
    Users
    Tools
Settings (this is the link you want so hover this and the submenu will appear)

It is the “Settings” > “Reading” link which takes you to the “Reading Settings”.
Here you will find the “Your homepage displays” setting.

Thank you it worked! But the content of the header template is still the only thing showing on most pages

I checked some of your pages and they look to be using different page templates.

Some are using the deafalt/standard page template, some are using the ‘Blank Canvas’ page template, and then some others are using what I think is an extra custom page template that is possibly created by yourself or another plugin (i.e. not provided by the theme as standard).

They are all displaying the page content when I looked, but for a consistent design across all of the site I would recommend firstly only making changes to the standard header template part, and then only using the one header in the standard page template, and only using the standard page template for all your pages.

I would also recommend checking out the WordPress support pages regarding the Site Editor and Template Editor.
These support articles go into way more detail than I can cover here.

Thank you so much!! I think that I’ve sorted it all out. Thanks again for your help and patience
