• Having moved from shopify, woo delivers great freedom. That said it also lacks some basic features you would expect from a mature product. Much of this is around post purchase order management.
Creating new orders for an existing client – it doesnt always grab their billing and shipping details which is annoying – never had that issue with shopify. Also editing orders is annoying how it extracts tax component so you need to guess total amount when editing an order if a client wants to change anything. Also if you need to add any products or make a change that needs additional payment, woo is unable to send a payment link along with order update email. Again shopify does this out of the box with ease. and lastly plugins – a necessary evil – each plugin adds a slow down to admin, which has now slowed basic product and order changes right down to a click and wait experience. Again this impact is not seen with shopify, so woo needs to implement standards or a structure that will eliminate this. It does sadden me as I see woo as a superior product, but shopify is pulling away in admin functionality.

    Hi @zdriver,

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback! It’s great to hear that you’re enjoying the freedom and flexibility WooCommerce provides. I understand your concerns regarding post-purchase order management, and I’d love to help clarify and explore possible solutions.

To help us better understand the issues you’re facing, could you provide more details on the following?

it doesnt always grab their billing and shipping details which is annoying

When creating a new order for an existing customer, does this issue happen consistently or only in certain cases? Normally, selecting a customer for an order should auto-fill their details if they exist. Are there specific steps you noticed where it fails to retrieve the details?

editing orders is annoying how it extracts tax component so you need to guess total amount when editing an order if a client wants to change anything.

The order total should be updated after you have added the taxes and items to the order. Have you tried using the “Recalculate Totals” button after making changes? Does the issue persist even after that?

Also if you need to add any products or make a change that needs additional payment, woo is unable to send a payment link along with order update email.

I see the limitation here. WooCommerce does not support multiple payments within a single order. Currently, you would need to either – Create an additional order for the outstanding balance, or use a plugin like “Split Orders” to separate the additional payment. If you’d like to request this as a feature, I highly recommend submitting an enhancement request on our GitHub.

each plugin adds a slow down to admin, which has now slowed basic product and order changes right down to a click and wait experience.

I’m sorry to hear that plugins are impacting your site’s speed. Have you tested disabling certain plugins to see if a specific one is causing the lag? I’d be happy to help identify possible optimizations or alternative solutions to improve performance and your experience.

      Looking forward to your response!
