Our calendar uses the Google Maps API and is limited to the features and options provided by Google — The map that appears is optimzed for browser and device (a google feature) and has the option to click-and-drag, and zoom in (+) or zoom out (-).. among other features.
With all due respect, I don’t think that’s true. I have used a few other plugins that use the Google Maps API that have plenty large maps on the computer which are scaled for smaller screens.
Take a look at The Events Calendar, a plugin of which I’m sure you are aware. The default setting for the map is the full width of the container in my experienc.
PS While you’re there, take a look at their Venues feature, which stores locations for convenience…

In our Core plugin calendar, the google maps resizes to full width for small screen sizes. If you resize the screen to a smaller one, the maps expands.
Our newest version of the calendar, called our Web App, uses the full width version of the Google Maps API by default:
