Fatal error when activating plugin

    I downloaded the iThemes plugin successfully, yet when I attempted to activate it, a fatal error page opened. fatal error: Call to undefined function wp()in xxx location on xxx line.
    I was able to return to admin page, yet any further action resulted in a fatal error page.

    I cannot re-enter admin page using login.

    This is not the first time with same plugin. Apparently, the con.fig was affected, according to my tech guy.

    I was unable to delete from admin page, so I removed plugin from ftp.

    Why is this occurring and what can I do to fix this on my end?
