  • Hi @birkvally, Josh here from Advanced Coupons.

It appears the person who owns this free plugin here that you’ve posted on was able to register the same plugin slug as the official Advanced Coupons premium plugin. The plugin update system then briefly showed an update available this morning and some people were updated to this plugin instead causing the above error.

Registering a plugin on our slug shouldn’t have been allowed. I’m awaiting an explanation from either this plugin owner for violating our trademark (registering a plugin with the same name and slug) or from .org plugin team about why the slug was allowed to be used (from what I understand it should not have been allowed).

In the meantime, I can see you are a premium customer of Advanced Coupons (https://advancedcouponsplugin.com) so you should login on our site and grab the latest package to manually reinstall and get your site working again.

Feel free to also reach out to our premium support and we can do it for you (same goes for any other folks reading this). I apologise for the confusion, we’re working to rectify this.

Thank you for the fast replay.

Hi @jkohlbach – Maybe put out a blog post or a note on the free version about this. I just noticed my plugins page only showed 3 plugins so I disabled the fourth to see if that fixed it (it did and sure enough, it was this one!).

Thankfully, I noticed the free and paid had different company names, then vaguely remembered getting notified, but didn’t remember where and couldn’t fine it in my email. I think I deleted it because I didn’t think it applied to me!

I’m glad I found this post to verify what went down.

I am also getting a similar error after updating. It threw my whole site offline. What’s going on with this company? The plugin page says, “This plugin has been closed as of November 25, 2024 and is not available for download. This closure is temporary, pending a full review.”

When will the issue be resolved?

@synergenxflynn – Did you read Josh’s explanation? This plugin we’re commenting on somehow hijacked the paid version of Advanced Coupons for WooCommerce. So when we updated, it updated with this instead of the correct one. It has now been shut down and that’s part 1 of the fix. Part 2 is you need to download the latest version from your account and reinstall that.
