Hello, can it be that there are problems with sending the emails? I have a couple of sites that I use this plugin for and is has always worked with me, but today on all sites I am getting the error “There is an error sending the mail” in a red bar.

I’d love to be able to use it with email again 🙂

Also, is it possible to add a function to save the report as PDF? That way, if mail doesn’t work I can always send it myself.

Thank you for the great work! I really love te plugin 🙂

I have 40+ sites across different hosting environments using WP Client Reports Pro, none of them have sent this months report to the clients. Is this a known issue?
    Thank you

    Hi again,

The “There is an error sending the mail” issue can occur for a few reasons. Most often, the issue stems from an issue with the website’s ability to send any email. Here’s how to troubleshoot:

    1. Check basic email functionality.
      1. Try resetting your password from the WordPress login screen and seeing if you received the password reset email.
    2. Check SMTP Configuration
      1. If using an SMTP plugin, verify your settings and test the connection via the plugin’s settings page.
    3. Hosting Server Issues
      1. Contact your hosting provider to confirm email functions are operational.
    4. Plugin Conflicts
      1. Temporarily deactivate other plugins to check for conflicts.
    5. Enable Debug Logging
      1. Add the following to your wp-config.php file:
        1. define( ‘WP_DEBUG’, true );
        2. define( ‘WP_DEBUG_LOG’, true );
      2. Test sending a report and check the debug.log in the wp-content folder for errors.
    6. Test Different Email Providers
      1. If all sites are affected, try sending emails via a different email provider or domain.

Regarding saving reports as PDFs, the plugin is designed to send reports directly from the WordPress dashboard via email. While PDF generation isn’t currently a built-in feature, we’d love to hear more about how this would help your workflow. You can submit a feature request here: Feature Requests.

Thanks again for reaching out and for supporting the plugin. If you need further help or have any other suggestions, feel free to let us know!

@thewebsmiths Steve, thanks for chiming in. At this time, these forums are strictly for the free plugin available through WordPress.org. While both issues are related to the emailed reports, the two issues are not directly related. We’ve replied to your email support ticket and will continue assisting you on that thread.

    Hi
I have tried all the solutions that have been recommended
however I still have problems with sending reports
    Some arrive regularly
Others end up in SPAM and there is no way to understand why
And finally there are those that never come through
I should point out that sending from the plugin is always reported as OK
Can anyone help me understand how to solve this problem
I would like to buy the Pro version but if I have these problems I’d rather not…

    Thanks,
    AW

    Hi Arma,

Thanks for bringing this up, and I completely understand your concerns. While this thread has been resolved, we want to make sure you get up and running.

Since the plugin is not reporting any errors and the reports are showing up in your inbox (albeit as Spam), it is likely your issue stems from something other than the WP Client Reports plugin. To provide the best assistance, we’ve created a comprehensive guide to troubleshooting email related issues when using WP Client Reports.

You can find that guide here: https://wpclientreports.com/docs/email-and-notifications/troubleshooting-wordpress-email-deliverability-issues/ (https://wpclientreports.com/docs/email-and-notifications/troubleshooting-wordpress-email-deliverability-issues/)

As a quick step before diving into that guide, make sure your reports are configured to “send from” the same domain as the website domain they are originating from. If they are not, that can very likely be the culprit.

If this doesn’t get you sorted out, please open another issue in the forum and we’ll reply there.

    Best regards,

    Sheryle

    Hi sgillihan,
Thanks to your advice I solved 70% of the problem
I installed the plugin WP Mail SMTP and now the reports are coming regularly
although many of them end up in the SPAM folder 🙁
I have contacted the server to try to curb the SPAM problem
I hope it will be done soon !!!

Now it is time to consider purchasing WP Client Reports Pro 🙂

    Thanks again,

Hello, sorry to not give a response for a while. I’ve been in contact with my hosting provider and found the issue! I have a VPS server running Plesk and due to security reasons the Sendmail functionality was turned off in December. Because of this WP Client Reports couldn’t send mails anymore. For the websites where I use WP Client Reports on I disabled Sendmail and now it works fine again 🙂

In Plesk Sendmail can be turned of this way:
Tools & Settings > Outgoing Mail Control Subscription > example.com > Change Limit:

I hope this helps for others who have these issues.
Is it possible to make the plugin work without Sendmail? This way I can turn off Sendmail for these accounts in my server, which improves security. Thanks!

Thanks for following up and sharing what you discovered! It’s great to hear you found the issue and got everything working again and I’m sure this thread could definitely assist others who run into similar issues.

To answer your question: WP Client Reports relies on the WordPress wp_mail() function for sending emails. This function uses your server’s mail setup (e.g., PHP mail, Sendmail, etc.) To avoid relying on Sendmail, you can use an SMTP plugin like WP Mail SMTP to send emails through a third-party service such as Gmail, SendGrid, or any secure mail provider. This way, you can disable Sendmail on your server without affecting WP Client Reports’ ability to send emails.

Generally speaking, it is better to run website email through a third-party provider to avoid the many potential issues and pitfalls related to providing email service.

    Hello @sgillihan,

Thank you for your reply, I will look into using external mail so I can disable sendmail on my server.
