Dashboard Won’t Save Layout
-
There are 3 columns in the WP dashboard layout. However, anytime I move any widgets to columns 2 or 3, they immediately return to column 1 upon a page reset or when returning to the dash after navigating away. I have disabled all plugins to see if there is a plug-in conflict. I have had my host disable my firewall to see if there is a conflict. I have flushed my caches. I have asked three different WP tech specialists and they don’t know how to help…claiming it’s a “bug.” Help!

Does the issue continue under the Twenty Twenty-One theme?
It continues under multiple themes. And yes, it continues under 2021 Theme.
Interesting, I’m not seeing this myself.
What caching plugin are you using?
I have removed all cashing plugins to see if that was an issue so none at the moment. And yes, everyone I’ve talked to says it looks unique to my site. In other words, they don’t know what is causing it. We have been trying all sorts of things in a sandbox.
Removing caching plugins doesn’t always stop the cache. Depending on the plugin, removing the plugin could result in the site being locked in a cached state.
What caching plugins were you using?
I believe it was WP Super Cache.
Ok, try all of the steps at https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-super-cache/#installation under “How to Uninstall WP Super Cache.”
Don’t close this. Still working on it. Will come back with an update.
Done. No change.
Hm, and
define( 'WP_CACHE', true );has definitely been removed from wp-config.php?If so, it’s not WordPress’s caching.
Does your hosting provider offer any sort of built-in caching?
Yes. It’s gone. I even had professional help to confirm.
No. They’ve checked all their backend stuff too. And they’ve turned of their firewall to check that. Nothing. I should also note that I had this problem before switching to a new host too. So I really don’t think it’s a host thing.
These settings are stored in your browsers “local storage”.
Do you have any limitations and/or security settings enabled in your browser? No. And that wouldn’t explain why the 3 techs I’ve hired had the same problem on their computers.
Finally figured it out. It was the admin account. It contained bad cookies stored in session cookies. I created a new admin account–problem solved.
