Cannot preview custom fields after item is published

I noticed that when I create a new post and press PREVIEW, the values are stored int the db.
However as soon as the post is published and I got back in to edit it, if I update any of the fields and hit preview again, it previews, but none of the custom fields are coming over.
It just displays the previously saved value from the db. Does pods not support preview after a post have been published ? Seems like it’s working only before it’s published. Once published it won’t update the fields when you hit the preview button, it will only do it if you hit the Update button.
My client would like to preview the changes before they are published.

Since the WP track ticket is still open I’m not sure whether this is properly implemented in WP core or just in Gutenberg.
Please file a complete bug report so we can test properly and (if applicable) create a patch a.s.a.p.
