Yes, there is an option for that under question 6.

Yes, I did change these settings but it does not work: the buttons are still in English!
Yes, for us it’s now also not working, we need to dig deeper here…
Could you please check: do you also have this plugin activated https://wordpress.org/plugins/ultimate-social-media-icons/? If yes, could you please de-activate it and see if it works if you only have the PLUS plugin activated?

I only have the PLUS plugin installed and activated. I was not really aware there were two plugins. Do you think it would work better if I used the other plugin? What is the difference between the two plugins?
Ok, no, the PLUS version is already the better one (of course the best of all is https://www.ultimatelysocial.com/usm-premium/). Then there might be another plugin on your site which is causing the conflict. Just to check it – could you please deactivate your other plugins to see if that removes the issue? Please also clear your cache then.

Hello,
Thank you for the piece of advice: I deactivated my other plugins and I found out the Wpdevart Facebook comments plugin was causing the issue. If I deactive the Facebook comments plugin, the like and share buttons are indeed in French. My only problem is that I really need this Facebook comments plugin, so if you have an idea on how to solve the conflict, I am all yours..
Ok, then there is a specific issue in conjunction with the other plugin. We can look into it, however only as part of our premium plugin https://www.ultimatelysocial.com/usm-premium/

Thanks, I solved the issue by changing the language of the comments plugin (it was still set to English!).
