    Hello,

we got some big problems with the plugin. It started about 5-6 days ago. Our backend was very very slow loading. It needed about 2 minutes to load a new site. We have an dedicated server with huge power, paying about 300 EUR p.m.

Then we deactivated the plugin and everything was fine again. When we tried to activate it again, we got an error, and the backend was noch working anymore. Fixed it by renamed the plugin folder. I even tried Query Monitor, but Query monitor could not load, because the backend was so slow. Frontend was OK btw.

Was there anything with the last update, that slowed down websites?

Btw: Is there any paid plugin with more functions? Love the product and looking forward.

Nothing that stands out to me that would suddenly cause slowness, for the last update. I’ve provided the changelogs for the last 2 releases below.

Do you recall what the errors were?

We’re exploring premium options internally, but don’t have anything ready for release.

    2.3.1

Update autocomplete template to use addEventListener instead of onload function
    Update Algolia InstantSearch.js to 4.49.1

    2.3.0

Add algolia_should_override_autocomplete filter to override enable/disable status of Autocomplete
Add from_batch argument to the re-index WP-CLI command
Update excluded custom post types and taxonomies to include Core WordPress’ internal CPTs and taxonomies
Update Algolia logos to match the latest version
Remove jQuery usage and dependency from templates
Update Algolia JavaScript API Client to 4.14.2
    Update Algolia InstantSearch.js to 4.49.0
Update Algolia PHP API Client to 3.3.2

Deeper support is what we’re doing here 🙂

Can you provide the error that got emailed to your admin email address? I believe you that you’re getting an error, but the part in the screenshot isn’t providing what the actual error is that we can troubleshoot with.

    Hello Michael,

i did not get any E-Mail in this case. We get E-Mails with critical error, but in this case, we did not receive any E-Mail.

We can try to upload an old version from you, and try it will work?

checking error logs in your hosting panel, or turning on WP_DEBUG IN YOUR wp-config.php are other ways to hopefully expose the error in question.

Regarding previous versions, you can acquire those at https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-search-with-algolia/advanced/ at the bottom of the page. Use the dropdown to choose the version you want.

Sounds like a plan. I’m still curious what the errors were though, to be honest.

Any insights and/or headway found with this issue @om20221 ?

No, we have to deactivate algolia every second day. Then the backend is working for another 48 hours. Then we have tom deactivate it. Seems like the plugin makes a high number of queries in our database, and the website (backend) slows down.

Can you maybe have a look. We can give you access to our staging.

Anything standing out in the logs you’re able to see? We shouldn’t be doing that many queries, unless something is somehow routinely re-indexing everything, but that’d be more requests to the Algolia API rather than your database.

Are you doing any sort of bulk processing of new posts, or perhaps new taxonomy terms or users? I know we re-index “on call” as those content types get updated, but it’s for individual items, outside of the bulk-re-index that shouldn’t be getting automated.
