I am trying to add a follow widget on the blog page. I found the directions. I can not find the ‘add a widget’ or ‘search for widget’ to click on. Does the theme I am using support a follow button ?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I don’t know what the Techup theme supports. For info on what a theme does or doesn’t do, its dedicated support forum is the best place to ask:

Widgets were previously not added to a single page, they were added to widget areas like a sidebar that are supported by the particular template you’re using. However, you can place blocks on individual pages. There might be a follow block, IDK.

With the latest WP release (5.8), widget vs. block terminology has gotten even more confusing. You can now add any block to a widget area. A number of widgets are now implemented as blocks. Thus widget blocks can now be added to individual pages.

So, do you want the follow button to appear in a template widget area, or on an individual page? Go to the appropriate admin screen, either widgets or page editor. On either screen, click the blue + button at upper left and a search box will be available.

Whether a follow button is available in part depends on what social platform one wants to follow on. Each one requires different follow code. If you cannot find an appropriate follow button, you should be able to find follow button HTML from you social media account. You can then paste the offered HTML into a Custom HTML block.

I would like the follow button to appear on my blog page. I saw a follow widget in word press where someone can sign up to get an email when a new blog post is made. That is what I am interested in doing. There is a widget side bar and bottom of page in the template I am using. I am going to use the side bar.

Yes the widget /block is confusing. The template I am using has the block for widgets. Thanks for this information I will do another search to find directions using ‘block’.

Thanks for the link for the individual themes. I will try there.

Thank you for your quick response.

Oh, that kind of follow! I was thinking like the “Follow me on Twitter” sort of follow 🙂 You might try looking for plugins using terms like “notification” or “subscription”. If they don’t provide a block for this, they’ll likely have a shortcode you can use, which can be used in the generic shortcode block.

Thank you. You got me thinking and I found a widget for adding social media buttons to the website. I will look into using the search terms you mentioned.
