Hi Carol, Indeed, there was a bug with the default category selection. It is corrected in version 6.2.2, which I just released. That being said, creating a category called Select a State is a recipe for disaster, since users could leave it at that value instead of actually selecting a state. As a better solution, I have added a configuration field under User Submission called ‘Select a category label’. So if you set the default category to No default category, then set the label to ‘Select a state’, you will get the desired result but users will be forced to select a category since the select a state choice will be invalid.
Do you also still need help on Google Recaptcha?

Oh, I know there are issues with having a category called “Select a State,” and I’m delighted to see that you have set up a way that this won’t be necessary in the add link section. However, the change hasn’t eliminated the need for the “Select a State” category, because it currently applies only to adding links, not to displaying them.
For example, in the linked page, if I don’t have a “Select a State” category, then when someone comes to the page, they will see that Alabama is selected, but no links are shown. This would suggest that there are no state retirement systems listed for Alabama. It is not at all intuitive that you have to press the Go button to see the Alabama systems. So what I want to do is to have “Select a State” selected while displaying the links, so that one has to select a state and then press Go to see any of the states.
I did figure out what was going on with Recaptcha. I was using the v.3 keys when I should have been using the v.2 keys. And I didn’t realize that there was an issue, because Recaptcha wasn’t kicking in as long as I was logged in. Since v.3 doesn’t show on the page, and the form was working when I used it, I figured all was well–until someone told me the form didn’t work. And then I went buggy trying to figure out why it seemed to work sometimes and not others. However, all is now well.
And yes, I always donate when you solve one of my problems. 😊

Hi Carol, I am out of town for a few days this week. Will look into this further on Friday.
lease update to the latest version (6.2.3) to see functionality I added. In the category tab of the library configuration, you will see that there is now a checkbox labeled ‘Show selection prompt in Drop-down list mode’, followed by a text field called ‘Drop-down list mode selection prompt text’. If you check the box, and set your label to ‘Select a state’, you should be in business.
You should also make sure that you have the option called ‘Hide category on start in single cat mode’ checked in the Common tab so that no categories appear at first.
Finally, for the go button being confusing to users, you can also get rid of that button and have the system directly go to selected category when if you select Drop-down List Direct Access as the ‘Link Categories Display Format’ under the Categories tab.
Let me know if this works as you wanted it to.
Thank you! I’ve been kludging this one for years, but this solved the issue.
Glad to hear this did the trick. Thank you for your support!
