• Hello,

I’m having some issue with a site I have been making and hosted on Google Cloud.

I am a beginner and I can usually follow tutorials instruction to do things, but when something goes wrong, terrible at troubleshooting.

So the site was working, while i was building the pages and information within, and I was able to access WP-admin and the site itself using the domain name.

For the past 2 days I cannot access WP-admin, or the site using the domain. I have no idea if it’s a problem with WP, Plugins, or Google Cloud.

I have read that is possible to access WP files using FTP to disable plugins, if that is the problem, but I lost myself trying to find the right info on how to access Google Cloud for the FTP details

I’ve going around different sites like a headless chicken…to find a solution.

Apologies if this is already been addressed in the forum of If I posted in the wrong section. If so, please point me to the right post.

    Hopefully someone could help.

    Cheers Alberto

A timeout indicates that the website hosting is not available. This can have many different causes, but must normally be clarified by the hoster’s support team. I don’t know if and where Google Cloud has such support. You may be able to find it there with your account.

@threadi Thanks for the reply. That’s what I understood as well…
I tried to set up FTP on Cloud, to see if I can turn off plugins from the folder, but I failed to set up as well 🙂
I.ve sent feedback with a screenshot, maybe someone from google will get back to me, with more info

Chances are you don’t even have an FTP server on your GCP CE instance.

Shared hosting services come with a web-based control panel and a basic set of tools to manage your site. When using a private server (whether from GCP, AWS, or a traditional VPS), the onus is on you to install every software you need, including FTP, phpMyAdmin, etc.

If all of this is above you, you may want to reconsider your choice of hosting solution. Perhaps a basic shared hosting plan or, budget-allowing, a managed WordPress hosting plan may be a better fit for you.

    Hi George,

There’s definitely an FTP option, which I was trying to set up, but obviously I’d done something wrong…
Anyway, I can now magically access wp-admin again, so I’m doing a backup with a plugin and then carry on from there.

And the site is off again…same error
