500 Internal Server Error. Optimize css

When you enable css compression, the frontend gives an error of 500. A new WordPress and Autoptimize plugin are installed on the site. I use VDS with the following finishes

OK, some questions;
* What errors are in your PHP errorlog?
* What happens if you untick “also aggregate inline CSS”?
* What happens if you disable “aggregate CSS”?

nothing relevant in the error log-file, no idea what is happening I’m afraid it1ivan; there’s almost no CSS to optimize but for reasons I don’t understand the CSS minifier seems to be crashing :-/

How can I solve the problem? Maybe something is wrong with the VDS setting

no idea to be honest; I’ve never seen an server have issues with the minification of that small amount of CSS and there are no indications in the error-log that can help pinpoint a specific issue. Maybe -wild guess here- try upgrading to a more recent PHP-version? from what I hear 7.4 is pretty stable and quite a lot faster?
