WordPress Pages Issue

Hi, I’m having issues with WordPress pages not appearing after I’ve written them. I installed WordPress on a linode following the instructions to install on a website. I’ve tried reinstalling a couple of times.

When I write a new page, it shows up in the list of pages. I tried adding a new page, and then the previous page does not show up anymore in the list of pages. When I refresh the page it stays the same. When I click the button to trash a page it says “The link you followed has expired”. The permalinks all point to the first page, which is a 404. Another issue is that there are caching problems with themes.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Rachel!

Thank you for reaching out. I took a look at your site (cozycode.ca/wordpress), and it appears to be a self-hosted WordPress installation on Linode, rather than a site hosted here on WordPress.com.

The WordPress.com forums are specifically for sites hosted on WordPress.com, so unfortunately, we’re not able to troubleshoot server-level issues on external hosting providers like Linode.

For the best help with your issue, I’d recommend these two options:

    1. WordPress.org Support Forums — the volunteer community there specializes in self-hosted WordPress installations and can help with the page, permalink, and caching issues you’re experiencing: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
    2. Linode Support — since your site is hosted on their servers, their support team can help with any server configuration issues (like PHP settings or file permissions) that may be contributing to the problems.

As a quick tip that may help: the “link you followed has expired” error and permalink issues on self-hosted sites are often related to PHP configuration (such as memory limits or max_input_vars being too low), or to file/folder permissions on the server. Your hosting provider would be the best resource to check those settings.

To learn more about the difference between WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress, you can check out this page: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

I hope you get things sorted out quickly!
