11:14 pm: Wow, more than a year gone... and I still haven't found what I'm looking for. OK, in a way I have. I actually passed all my exams and found quite the nice job. I've less time than ever for any graphics work or fiction writing, but am participating in NaNoWriMo nonetheless. My boss has already asked why the heck I'm spending my lunch breaks (which I used to spend walking around the Alster lake) inside typing away and tearing at my hair- oh, the wonders of NaNo!

I'm overjoyed at finding out there might be another PoT manga series... after all, a plethora of pretty slashable boys is nothing to scoff at! Oh, and I've finally managed to get to 40% strength and movement range in my left hand. It's nothing for a former lefty, but I'm more than happy that I at least manage to write using my normal handwriting again. Oh, and I'm still faster with my left than my right.

I'm doing fencing again, too, and thankfully my wrist held up so far. I'm far from my tournament level but I hope to actually reach the amateur rankings next spring (if I could get my right hand to pitch in when the left gives out that would cinch it, I believe).

It's the dark season again, my least favorite time of the year (I'm a sun&summer person)... Every night, I put a candle in my window and watch the sky for a few minutes. My Mom once told me that the flame might put a light into the life of one lonely person looking up to my window, and I kind of like that belief. Besides, if I use my white tea-scented candle my room smells so nice, too!

I hope I'll win NaNo this year. It's an original story, and I've really put my heart into the plot. Hopefully, it'll actually come through...

Well, that's it for now! cu later, everyone!

04:14 pm: It's more than I could say...
Wow, my dear friend starlit_writer just posted a very interesting piece of meta here. She's a few years younger than me, but we met squabbling over the last copy of a book in the fantasy section of a big bookstore and we have been friends ever since.

I think she's got it right- Harry Potter exudes some kind of magic that takes us "older" (I don't count myself as "old" yet ;) ) readers right back to the wondrous days of our first ventures into the world of literature. It's gripping and compelling- like she said, it didn't reinvent the wheel, but that's unnecessary when it's how the wheel's employed once invented that counts. I love Harry Potter for its rich and detailed side plots- the main plot is quite usual, but it's the small details that draw me into Harry's world. Them, and the plethora of wonderful characters that are at once stereotyped and so life-like that I expect to meet them on the streets any day.

I, for one, will do what she does- take my last foray into Harry's world with a good cup of coffee and a nice, comfortable day on the sofa, then smile, put the book aside- and start discussing. IRL, since my typing skills are still far below par for the course... everyone would have run away online by the time I managed to get out a reply.

So, what do you think? How will you celebrate your last Potter Day (or night, if you're fortunate enough to live in an area where midnight sales are available)?

03:07 am: Errr... yes. I'm alive, though sanity is a debatable concept
Well... recently, I've been asked to expand my Master's thesis into a German PhD thesis, so I'm sort of stuck between the dusty shelves of the IBL section of the library trying to locate proofs and counters. Fourteen-hour days are normal. Meh.

Still, I'm very excited for the release of DH. Been debating the German translation of the title exhaustively with a few friends. Since the alternate title (Relics of Death) has been announced and various (European) languages have taken to adapting that one, but in the "religious" sense of "relic" (reliquia as opposed to residuo in Italian) our discussion has almost become frenetic- we're all waiting for the German title, of course.

I don't know whether or not I'm all hyped up for the movie, though... ever since the third one they've been a huge disappointment (and I know most everybody will disagree with me on PoA, but hey, my blog, my opinion!). We'll see. I'll certainly not pay insane amounts of money for a midnight premiere. No, I'll invest that in more classical concerts and Lang Lang's Beethoven recording, which I've been eyeing since it came out but have been too broke to even consider buying *cries*.

So... I'll just leave you here! 'til next time!!!

08:12 pm: Well, amidst the horrors that are
1. exams
2. master's thesis
3. rehab

I've finally realized that there are only 24 hours in a day- wish I had a timeturner.

We were set another Myers-Briggs-Test in my study group (to determine the most effective reviewing method for each individual) and someone gave me the link to this quiz. Why doesn't anyone get that my results NEVER differ?

Your Personality is Very Rare (INTJ)

Your personality type is logical, uncompromising, independent, and nonconformist.

Only about 3% of all people have your personality, including 2% of all women and 4% of all men.
You are Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking, and Judging.

Could've done a few more standard case diagrams in the time that stupid test took.

12:30 pm: halfway back
hey! sorry i didn't write for so long, but i sorta had an accident... well, actually i had a rather bad accident. on my way to my internship i was run over by a rather heavy man on a rather fast bike and managed to hit the curb as i fell. i unfortunately tried bracing myself on my forearms as i had learned in self-defense classes, but concrete+bones=shattered bones.

i finally got out of the hospital (had to have three operations to restore my left wrist which was hit worst [shattered trapzium and capitate, broke three others and completely destroyed scaphoid]) but am still in casts (both arms- meh!!!). typing is quite strenuous (i can't rest my wrists on the keyboard like i usually do or it will end up gibberish, and my left hand is completely disabled), and i don't know when i'll be able to do graphics work again- sry, centaury_squill!!! i hope my right arm will be out of its cast in another week or two (just a clean fracture of both the ulna and the radius- this arm landed still on the sidewalk), then i start physical therapy sessions and will be able to direct my mouse again. sorry!!!

meh, it's damn boring to just lie around all day!

08:16 pm: Summertime
Summer's getting closer, and with it exams, internships and all other things nice and cuddly.

I'm looking forward to my internship, truly I do, but I wish I had at least a week of holidays to relax in between exams and it starting. Meh.

Anything graphics or fanfiction-related is being put on the backburner atm, I'm studying!

Oh, and of course there's the concert next week. Beethoven's choir fantasy in c minor as the main piece- simply beetho-licious. He's my fav composer!
*blushes*

Back to work!!!

05:40 pm: The weather is killing me. I haven't slept in 50 hours. It's not the heat (I'm pretty much temperature resistant- and usually only the cold gets at me), it's the damn changes in air pressure. Cranks up the migraine-o-meter to Beyond Bearable. I'm snarling at anyone speaking above a whisper, dunno how I got through lectures today. Thank goodness I'm done teaching for the week!
This weekend we're having our annual res/dorm summer festival, and as a member of the student council I'm pretty much booked with preps and such...

Got asked why I didn't post to the icon comms or tut comms very often- the answer's simple. I'm busy and I'm slow. I much prefer making individual icons in different styles to cranking out large badges. And I'm sort of busy, did I mention that?

Gah, don't mind me. My head's killing me, thunderstorm isn't ready for breaking yet (no relief until it does) and I'm about to drop into a coma. Life's brilliant, isn't it?

09:46 pm: Getting better
This week was absolute hell. I didn't have any lectures, but had to do my tutoring work and sit in on around four different meetings, all the while feeling ready to collapse. Thankfully, my fever's down to slightly above normal now, and I'm starting to regain my ability to see straight. Meh.

Read a fanfiction a while ago where it mentioned an abbreviation for Death Eaters- Deaters. Now, in Germany there's a guy who's quite a celebrity. He's called Dieter Bohlen, and he's just about as annoying as any person present in the media can get. I put him on the same level as the American president, and that's something.

"What's a deater?"
"This!Collapse )"
"Oh. Now I know why they're considered the mortal enemy of the wizarding world!"

Hehe, I thought it was funny at the time...

12:38 am: Working under the influence
Gah, I hate meds, they make my head all fuzzy... but at least I can sit up now. Since I couldn't concentrate enough to read I played around with PS, and made a pretty little manip:

Who's that in the forest???Collapse )

Since I had to combine three different pics to get this, please credit if you want to make an icon from it!

Oh, and of course, I made Image and video hosting by TinyPic this for myself... from aforementioned manip. Hehe.

Meh, I'd have liked to write, though...
