Nicked from
mondhasen. Because sometimes lighthearted memes are fun to fill.
Based on Senior School, age 11-16.
1. Did you marry your high school sweetheart?
I never even fancied anyone at senior school; and have never wanted to get married.
2. Type of car.
None; no-one had a car while still at school as the age for a driver’s license is 17. 2-3 lads had a small motorbike (50cc) in 5th year (age 16).
3. What kind of job?
I helped out at my Dad’s work a few times but it wasn’t official, he just gave me extra pocket money. A couple of my friend’s got Saturday jobs in local shoe shops but it sounded really horrible! I did tell my Mam I fancied a paper round when a bit younger than that but she said no.
4. Where did you live?
In a town in North-East England.
5. Were you popular?
No! I had friends at school but hardly ever saw them outside of school.
6. Were you in choir/band?
I don’t remember our school ever having those, and I wouldn’t have been interested anyway.
7. Ever get suspended?
no
8. If you could, would you go back?
Hell no! The day I left was one of the happiest days of my life.
9. Still talk to the person that you went to prom with?
We didn’t have a prom, or anything like that and I wouldn’t have gone anyway.
10. Did you skip school?
Only on very rare occasions.
11. Go to all the football games?
No, I only know they had teams because my brother was on one or more.
12. Favourite subject?
Art, loved it, far more than anything else.
13. Do you still have your yearbook?
British schools don’t have yearbooks.
14. Did you follow the "original" career path?
I’ve never had a career path to follow!
15. Do you still have your senior ring?
That’s another thing British schools don’t do.
16. Favourite Teacher?
I don’t think I ever had a favourite teacher, although the art teacher used to let us have a radio on in class which was against the school rules.
17. What was your style?
Casual. Once I could afford to buy some, I always wore jeans, with a t-shirt or sweatshirt mostly.
18. Favourite Shoes?
I don’t remember any favourites.
19. Favourite thing for lunch?
I don’t know. The school did get a caferia when I was in 1st or 2nd year but we always went home for dinner so never had a choice, just whatever my Mam put in front of us!
20. Favourite band?
Probably Toyah, or the Human League, but I’m not sure of the years.
21. High school hair?
It started off shoulder length in 1st year and gradually got shorter I think by 5th year it just reached my neck.
22. How old when you graduated?
We didn’t ‘graduate’, we just left after doing our last exam, which for me was art. I remember walking out of the building after I finished the exam. I was 16. A few American pals in the past asked why did I ‘drop out’ but I didn’t, that was the school leaving age in those days and it might still be possible to leave at 16 if you have a job to go to, or some other source of income but most kids seem to stay on at 6th form or a college, or start an apprenticeship now.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
“Just keep swimming.”
without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.
I copied that from Leea's page; I forget where she got it from. Since discovering penpalling and swapping as a kid there have always been people in my life, some I've met and some not, who have the power to cheer me up via my postbox and now online. Thank you! I just wish more of them were on LJ!
I nearly logged out of the computer without coming here AGAIN but at least I have a bit of time today - I got here 9am to find the library doesn't open till 10am this week. The old one never opened at all over xmas/new year. So I did a bit of sale-ing and got a new purple hoodie and a cheap diary (for work) and some xmas stickers and tape.
I did get my mince pies baked on Friday and they turned out pretty good I think - I forgot you need margarine as well as lard for the pastry and only got lard so I had to use ordinary soft margarine. The pastry was softer and more flaky and nicer than usual :) . My friend says they're "the best mince pies ever" :D There are only 3 left I think.

When the new pool opened here they had a new rule - no outdoor footwear was allowed in the changing rooms.
A surprising amount of people leave them next to the chairs near the entrance barriers - including my friend. I can't believe people are so trusting! I always put mine in a carrier bag then in my locker. My trainers are cheap and unlikely to be nicked, but if they were not only can I not afford a new pair, how would I get home in bare feet?
My friend doesn't live as far as me and has family even closer but it would still be a massive pain in the arse, and so easily avoided. When I do my own 'risk management' it's not only about the chances of something happening, but the effort needed to prevent it. Well in this case all it takes is a couple of seconds and a carrier bag.
When I took my friend's daughter (11) she said she didn't like leaving her trainers there, so I said don't ... but she did anyway, and they cost £50! Well last week after swimming my friend got out to discover her socks and trainers were soaked - someone must have spilt water on them, although weirdly the seat above them, which has holes in, was dry. So from now on she's putting them in her locker, because she didn't like wearing soggy socks and trainers to get home - better than none though!
How are you supposed to find anything on here?! I thought I could search for other hockey or sci-fi fans/groups but I can't figure out how, all you can do is a google search of the entire net...!
