The Industrial Packaging Alliance of North America represents the interests of manufacturers of new industrial steel drums, plastic drums, rigid intermediate bulk containers, and fiber drums in North America and their suppliers. It was founded in 2003 as a federation of the following four separate and independent 501(c)(6) trade associations (known as affiliates):

  • Industrial Steel Drum Institute;
  • Plastic Drum Institute;
  • Rigid Intermediate Bulk Container Association; and
  • International Fiber Drum Institute.

Each of these affiliates is governed by its own Board of Directors and bylaws, and the IPANA Board of Directors is comprised of the Chair of each Affiliate Member.

The International Confederation of Drum Manufacturers (ICDM) is an international organization comprised of three trade associations, including ISDI, that represent steel drum manufacturers in North America, Europe, and Asia. Together, these manufacturers produce 250 million steel drums each year – including approximately 27 million in the United States.

ICDM advocates for the common interests of its member associations before international standard-setting bodies, such as the United Nations Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods and the International Standards Organization.

It also collaborates with its member associations to develop position papers that provide guidance on critical issues for steel drum manufacturers and their customers.
