INTEREST MEME
Respond with "THUNDERCATS" and I will pick of 6 of your interests for you to expand on in one of your next entries.

1. Labyrinth
2. Hetalia
3. Clamp
4. Final Fantasy
5. Childfree
6. Don Bluth

1. Labyrinth
I literally can't remember how I discovered Labyrinth; I think I got tired of not understanding all the references everyone made to this movie, so I decided to watch it. While it's unbelievably cheesy, it still has its charm. I also really admire this fandom's stamina; Labyrinth came out over twenty years ago, and the fandom's still going strong! And the percentage of quality fan fiction and fan art coming out of this fandom is unusually high to boot, due in no small part to the room for sequels. I think my favorite thing to come out of this fandom is Pika-la-Cynique's Girls Next Door.

2. Hetalia
HETALIA. Where do I begin? I'm not as active in Hetalia fandom as I used to be, mainly because most of the BNFs I was following have gone on hiatus, but I still hold Hetalia close to my heart. And someday, I will finish my U.S. state-tan! What started out as just a web comic about personifications of nations has turned into a phenomenon, with fans creating their own characters and plots. (Including big fan projects like Latin Hetalia and I Am Matthewian!) I also feel like it's brought people together, as cheesy as it sounds, perhaps more than most fandoms due to the very nature of the web comic.

3. Clamp
I've been a fan of Clamp's various series about as long as I've been a fan of Sailor Moon; I still have TokyoPop's original printing of Card Captor Sakura! Card Captor Sakura and Magic Knight Rayearth helped define the magical girl genre for my generation, but their more recent works have earned a reputation for being completely FUBAR. While I feel like Clamp has a problem with striking a balance between navel-gazing and plot, ESPECIALLY in their more recent works, I still love their work for having a lot of heart. Their most recent work is Gate 7, which you should totally check out if you haven't already! (And I really need to read or catch up on a lot of their work! Most of their older titles were already out of print by the time I discovered them and hell if I know what's been going on in Tsubasa and xxxHOLic since I picked them up last.)

4. Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children was my introduction to Final Fantasy. Needless to say, I was unbelievably confused. Because we didn't really have a console in the house until my parents bought a PlayStation 2 when I was in junior high, my first Final Fantasy was actually Final Fantasy X, and I loved everything about it, from the characters to the story to the gameplay to the music, though the voice acting was a bit lackluster for a few characters. I was instantly hooked, and I tracked down every game I could find. I've now played, though not necessarily finished, every main series Final Fantasy game except FFXI and FFXIV. (And I find it ironic that a sequel served as my introduction to the series, and now I'm almost as critical of the sequels as a hardcore old school Final Fantasy fan.) I want to fangirl more here, but I don't know how to put it into words!

5. Childfree
I've known since I was a child that I never wanted children, at least not children of my own. I'm still not sure why, though given the deep-seated nature of my desire not to have biological children, it's possible I might be tokophobic. However, I thought that having children was a requirement, so I would talk about adopting children instead. It wasn't until my youngest sister was born and I became more active online that I realized I didn't want to have children at all and that I didn't have to. Because I live in the Bible Belt, I still get people telling me that I'll change my mind, but I've felt this way for a decade now, so I doubt I'll change my mind.

6. Don Bluth
Don Bluth! <3 (I actually knew Don Bluth movies weren't Disney movies even when I was really young; I never understood how people got them mixed up.) Anyway, I really only liked Don Bluth for Thumbelina and Anastasia when I was a child, but as I got older I found more of his older work and I noticed how much better it was in comparison to the stuff he was churning out during my childhood. Even though he's not as good as he once was, I still respect him for creating beautiful animated films that really pushed the envelope in terms of content for a family audience.

Big Bad Pete (ブラック・ピート Burakku-Pīto, lit. "Black Pete") An unusual, Pete-shaped ice cream with a chestnut flavor. Dark Impulse Command Style.

20 Bizzaro Bean
20 Whipped Dream
We've finally reached the last ice cream! Huzzah! I'd like to thank everyone who's followed this little project of mine; your comments made it that much sweeter.

There's really not much to say about the ice cream itself, other than that chestnuts are a gigantic pain in the ass to find. If you try making this ice cream when chestnuts aren't in season, you'll almost definitely have to substitute to the chestnuts for something else; I recommend hazelnuts.

Ingredients for chestnut ice cream:

1-1/2 c whole milk
1 c heavy cream
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
4 eggs
1/2 c sugar
1-1/2 c chestnuts
In a bowl, beat eggs and sugar until fluffy and light in color. Set aside. Combine remaining ingredients in a saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is brought to just under a boil. Immediately remove from heat. Combine the egg mixture with the milk mixture. Stir well. Quickly pour the mixture into a 9X5 3-inch pan. Let stand undisturbed for 10 minutes. Place pan in freezer and freeze until firm. Break the frozen mixture into chunks. In a bowl, beat until smooth. Return mixture to pan and freeze until firm. Makes 1 quart.

In a bowl, place one scoop of ice cream. Top ice cream with dark chocolate syrup. Garnish with two vanilla wafers for ears, a chocolate for a nose, and two marshmallows for teeth.

Looks like it's gonna be another one of those nights. I think I'll bake my Christmas presents for my college town friends and then just eat ice cream directly out of the container while watching YouTube videos.

Before I do that, I just want your opinion on something. I'll be posting the last Birth by Sleep ice cream recipe tomorrow, which means I won't have any big fandom project to do. So, what would you guys like to see from me? I was thinking of doing What Not to Wear: Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts Edition, which would basically be a critique of the outfits worn by Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts characters.

(I know I've promised to make fanart and fanvids, including my APH state-tan, but those are going to have to wait until I get my computer situation sorted out. I also don't know when I'll get around to finishing my FFX-2 and KHBBS revised scripts, as they were only ever saved on my computer and I don't feel like starting over from the beginning.)

Fabracadabra (ハットトリック Hatto Torikku, lit. "Hat Trick") An ice cream topped with the magic of three fruit flavors. Spellweaver Command Style.

2 Balloon Melon
2 Heroic Orange
1 Peach Fantasy
I have returned from Fall Break with only two ice cream flavors to go! Let's get cracking! Heroic Orange and Peach Fantasy are pretty self-explanatory, but there are many different types of melon. After a bit of digging, I discovered that melon-flavored things in Japan are flavored with musk melon, of which there are many cultivars. I couldn't find musk melons or the Japanese cultivar Sprite melons, but honeydew melons worked just fine. Because I was low on ingredients, I combined all three in the ice cream I made for the picture, but three separate batches are necessary if you want to be truly accurate to the game.

Ingredients for musk melon/orange/peach ice cream:

1-1/2 c whole milk
1 c heavy cream
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
4 eggs
1/2 c sugar
1 musk melon, peeled and chopped/2-1/2 c oranges, sectioned/2-1/2 peaches, pitted and sliced
In a blender, puree musk melon/oranges/peaches until smooth. Set aside. In a bowl, beat eggs until fluffy and light in color. Set aside. Combine remaining ingredients in a saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is brought to just under a boil. Immediately remove from heat. Combine the egg mixture with the milk mixture. Stir well. Fold in the musk melon/oranges/peaches.

In a bowl, place a scoop of each ice cream.

Donald Fizz (ドナルド・ソルト, Donarudo-Saruto, lit. "Donald Salt") A fizzy ice cream that bears a charming resemblance to Donald. Ghost Drive Command Style.

8 Crystal Soda
13 Mermaid Salt
15 Fizzy Tizzy
8 Sky Blue Mousse
I seem to have bad luck with lemon-flavored ice cream; I had to make this recipe twice as well, though not for the same reasons. I figured that Fizzy Tizzy, originally Rocket Lemonade, would be lemonade concentrate, so I mixed the lemonade concentrate with the seltzer but also added water. This resulted in double the yield, but it was more like a popsicle due to the water. The second time, I just mixed the lemonade concentrate with the seltzer and it worked like a charm. I didn't want this recipe to be too similar to sea-salt ice cream, so I added the sea salt to the vanilla shell instead. It tasted pretty good!

Just so you're all aware, I probably won't post another recipe for another two weekends because I'll be home for Fall Break and the Internet at my house sucks.

Ingredients for sparkling lemonade ice cream:

1-1/2 c sweetened condensed milk
1 L seltzer
1 can lemonade concentrate
Mix seltzer and lemonade concentrate well. Combine with sweetened condensed milk in a bowl and beat until smooth. Quickly pour the mixture into a 9X5 3-inch pan. Place pan in freezer and freeze until firm. Break the frozen mixture into chunks. In a bowl, beat until smooth. Return mixture to pan and freeze until firm. Makes 1 quart.

Top ice cream with vanilla syrup dyed blue and sea salt.

Double Crunch (ダブルクランチ Daburu Kuranchi) A mixed ice cream so full of fruit, you might just go a little bananas. Wingblade Command Style.

9 Cherryberry
5 Merry Dairy
14 Wedding Cake
15 Star Syrup
Note that Cherryberry was originally Bottled Strawberry. I decided to incorporate the cake as part of the mixture rather than filling for the cone this time around. The only thing I could think of for Star Syrup was star anise extract, which helped make the ice cream less sickeningly sweet. You could probably use more than just the fruits I listed to serve with the ice cream, though they're the ones that are actually in the in-game image, near as I can tell.

Ingredients for strawberry cake batter ice cream:

1-1/2 c whole milk
1 c heavy cream
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 tsp pure star anise extract
4 eggs
1/2 c sugar
2 c strawberries, pureed
1/2 c cake mix
In a blender, puree strawberries until smooth. Set aside. In a bowl, beat eggs until fluffy and light in color. Set aside. Combine remaining ingredients in a saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is brought to just under a boil. Immediately remove from heat. Combine the egg mixture with the milk mixture. Stir well. Fold in the strawberries.

In a waffle bowl, place one scoop of ice cream. Top ice cream with cherry syrup. Garnish with strawberries, kiwis, cherries, peaches, and two chocolate cookies for ears.

Goofy Parfait (グーフィー・パフェ Gūfī Pafe) A sundae-style ice cream piled up to look like Goofy. Cyclone Command Style.

7 Moogle Coffee
6 Jumbo Almond
5 Chocolate Valentine
10 Forest Muffin
This was another tricky recipe to make. The in-game image colors the ice cream white and GREEN for some reason and there appear to be random fruits in the bowl, so that was no help. While researching the ingredients, I discovered that the Forest Muffin was actually Forest Castella in the original, castella being a type of Japanese sponge cake. I then realized that the ingredients I had to work with were essentially the ingredients for tiramisu, so I decided to make a tiramisu sundae. After discussing the ice cream with friend, we decided that the Jumbo Almond could be Jordan almonds, which would account for the brightly-colored spheres in the dish.

I do not have the Jordan almonds or the espresso-soaked ladyfingers in the picture because I couldn't find the former and the latter where too expensive to get at Starbucks, which was the only place in town I could find ladyfingers. For some reason. If you have mascarpone, feel free to use that instead of cream cheese.

Ingredients for cream cheese ice cream:

1-1/2 c whole milk
1 c heavy cream
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
4 eggs
1/2 c sugar
8 oz. cream cheese
Stir well. Stir in cream cheese until melted.

Soak two ladyfingers in espresso and place on the side. Top ice cream with cocoa powder or chocolate shavings and whipped cream. Garnish with Jordan almonds.

Daisy Sorbet (デイジー・ソルベ Deijī Sorube) Cool sherbet with grape flavor made into ice with Daisy's shape. Rhythm Mixer Command Style.

8 Starry Sky Drop
15 Luxury Marshmallow
10 Humming Mint
12 Melody Grape
So, Big Bad Pete is postponed indefinitely because the local supermarkets aren't going to get chestnuts in until the holiday season officially starts. Since I, like a fucking idiot, forgot to withdraw money for groceries this week while the bank was still open, I couldn't buy all the ingredients necessary for the next ice cream in line, Goofy Parfait. I had to skip all the way to the last one in the list, Daisy Sorbet. Daisy Sorbet is limited to Birth by Sleep Final Mix and activates the Final Mix-exclusive Rhythm Mixer, which is pretty cool!

I recommend Concord grapes because they're the kind most likely to be found in stores, but any wine grapes will do. (Table grapes aren't as sweet, so don't use them) If you don't have a fine-mesh strainer, do NOT use grapes. Any attempt to strain the grapes by hand will stain everything. Just use a small bottle of store-bought grape juice. For the mint, any type is fine, so long as it's fresh.

Ingredients for grape mint sherbet:

1-1/2 c whole milk
1 c heavy cream
1/2 c sugar
2 c Concord grapes, washed, and stemmed
1/2 c packed fresh mint leaves
1-1/2 c water
Combine grapes, mint leaves, and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Cover, stirring occasionally, until the grapes have released their juice and the skins are peeling. Remove from heat and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl. Add the sugar and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Whisk in the milk and heavy cream.

Garnish with two marshmallows for a bow and gum drops.

Honeybunny (ハニーバニー, Hanī Banī) An adorable apple and honey ice cream shaped just like a bunny. Fever Pitch Command Style.

3 Honeybunch
2 Apple Pie
Those of you who have the game handy might be wondering why I'm not making the Big Bad Pete ice cream this week. Unfortunately, chestnuts aren't in season right now and are snatched up fairly quickly in stores, so the earliest I can make the recipe will be next week when the local supermarkets get a new shipment.

I wasn't sure whether Honeybunch was supposed to be just regular honey or some sort of honey-flavored candy and the Japanese name wasn't much help, so I decided to play it safe and have both. The "apple pie" I used in this recipe is my family's apple crisp, but you can use any apple pie/crisp recipe you like. Note that the pie crust pieces are optional; I chose not to add them because I'm not used to making that style of pie crust.

Ingredients for apple pie ice cream:

1-1/2 c whole milk
1 c heavy cream
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
4 eggs
1/2 c honey
9 cooking apples, peeled and thinly sliced
1-1/2 c sugar
2-1/3 Tbsp cinnamon
4 Tbsp lemon juice
1/2 c water
1/2 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 c butter
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Place apples in a 9X13 pan. In a bowl, combine 3/4 c sugar and 2 Tbsp cinnamon. Stir well. Add lemon juice and water. Stir well. Pour the mixture over the apples. Combine remaining sugar and cinnamon with flour, salt, and butter. Mix with hands until crumbly. Sprinkle over the apples. Bake for 45 minutes. Let cool. In a bowl, beat eggs until fluffy and light in color. Set aside. Combine remaining ingredients in a saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is brought to just under a boil. Immediately remove from heat. Combine the egg mixture with the milk mixture. Stir well. In a blender, combine 1/3 of the apple crisp with the mixture and puree until smooth. Quickly pour the mixture into a 9X5 3-inch pan. Let stand undisturbed for 10 minutes. Place pan in freezer and freeze until firm. Break the frozen mixture into chunks. In a bowl, beat until smooth. Blend in pie crust pieces. Return mixture to pan and freeze until firm. Makes 1 quart.

In a waffle cone, place two scoops of ice cream. Mold top scoop into the shape of a rabbit's head. Top ice cream with honey. Garnish with two honey-flavored candies for eyes.
