The Night at the Museum

UTD's women-driven tech organizations are excited to join forces and present our 24-hour hackathon uniting women and non-binary students. Our goal is to create an inclusive environment that highlights and empowers women, femme, and non-binary students through technology. We aim to encourage more underrepresented individuals to harness their skills by creating software or hardware projects of their own. Whether it's networking with sponsors and hackers, gaining development and workshop experience, or competing against other teams for challenges and prizes, WEHack offers participants an opportunity to end the weekend with unique takeaways.

Welcome to the WEHack Museum! For this year, develop an application that follows our theme, The Night at the Museum!  Build an application that pushes meaningful change by studying the past to unlock and shape what’s to come. Reimagine how history and technology can work together to learn from the past, improve the present, and inspire the future.

Build a Personalized Risk Assessment experience that helps customers in auto, homeowners, or life insurance proactively reduce risk. Create an app/tool that collects a few user inputs (real or simulated) and uses AI or a simple ML/LLM-powered scoring approach to generate a clear risk score, explain the key drivers behind it, and deliver tailored, actionable safety recommendations that motivate behavior change and reduce the likelihood of claims.

Consider including: quick intake (a short quiz or sensor/simulated data), transparent explanations (“what raised/lowered your score”), timely alerts (weather, location, seasonal hazards), and engagement mechanics (goals, streaks, badges, progress over time). Bonus points for responsible design—privacy-friendly data choices, user consent, and recommendations that are realistic, safe, and easy to follow.
