App to Rotting

Notes:
- “The Grid” is a digital world where Bit comes from. It is inside a computer.
- “Programs” are people shaped and also live inside these computers

-Character Information-
Name: Bit {note: “Bit” is a name | “bit” is a species}
Canon: Tron; coming from before the MCP is vanquished but after Kevin Flynn ditches the recognizer.
Gender: Bit doesn't have a gender in canon (not sure what goes on in the novels), but upon getting a human body, it will become a he – though it won't see much distinction between sexes.
Cell Phone: http://www.cellfanatic.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/history-of-cell-phones.jpg but there will be a tiny little screen and whatever else it needs to function in the game. It's just going to be hideously old fashioned looking and huge to carry around.

Physical Description:
Bit will be getting the body of a young man aged 17-19. He will have shaggy, slightly curly brown hair, and look like a pretty normal teen at that age. He's got blue eyes and will be on the shorter side of short. Of course he is only mostly human, and if cut or otherwise damaged, will reveal his unnatural heritage. If he loses a part of his body (ex: hair cut) his detached pieces (ex: hair) will de-rezz. A flesh wound will manifest into broken and loosening pixels along his skin first, and then normal blood flow will follow if the wound is bad enough. Bruises will be normally discoloured but sit on top of cracks in the skin that run the damaged area, and just like all programs (Tron: Legacy) Bit's pupils are hexagonal.

Personality: In computers, bits are simple binary digits that can only express on|off or 1|0 or true|false or +|-. Their purpose is to function as switches between two stable states, and for this reason, Bit is very interested in cause and effect. This is especially true of physically tangible things he can now cause to happen with his humanoid body.

Just like how all programs are designed and want to be useful, so too do bits have purposes they want to carry out. In TRON, bits belong to, and help out a single program. This particular bit in question originally belonged to a hacking program, so it makes sense that Bit is well versed in talents that would be helpful toward those ends. Because bits only belong to one program, they are imaginably very loyal to that individual person. Also, because he works for a hacking program, Bit's response to figures of authority may not follow that of a model citizen if they get in the way of what he wants.

Because his original physical body is constantly in motion, even in his new body, Bit will almost constantly be moving in some way, whether it be tapping his foot, wiggling his fingers or swaying in place. He may come off as being antsy or hyperactive, but even in his neutral at rest stage, Bit's original shape was continuously moving. The fact that he's energetic and use to time flowing much quicker than it does in the human world, doesn't help this image at all – especially since it makes him impatient. A lot of his movements may be sharp and sudden, and because he's not used to how this body uses and processes calories / energy, he's liable to tire himself out.

Like any program / entity from the Grid (Tron land), Bit can only be expected to understand what other programs do. He doesn't know about things like: what food is for, what intercourse is, or what plants and animals are. It makes sense to assume that Bit would be curious and awed all the novelty of the real world since, until now, he's lived in a computer. He would probably find the inability to fly pretty irritating though.

Even though he's from a computer, he still has human flaws, like the propensity to jump to conclusions. When he meets Kevin Flynn on the Grid, he assumes the man is his program because they look the exact same, even though Flynn acts like he doesn't know who Bit is. Also, unless told otherwise, Bit will assume that all liquids are 'energy' and will think that ingesting them will make him feel good (either in a drunk way or will restore health). It should be noted that since Bit is new to this arms and legs thing, he isn't going to be particularly talented at physical / athletic activities either.

An important thing to know is that Bit has only ever had the capabilities to verbalize “Yes” and “No,” though he can quickly repeat the words or add emphasis. Now that he's human(ish), he can actually say more, but not having ever said anything else in his life means he doesn't know that it's a possibility.

Considering too that his original form didn't have limbs, Bit isn't very good at using body language, and will usually keep his hands to his sides in a very neutral posture. He can read body language, having lived with people-shaped things all his life, but he's never had any reason to copy their nonverbal signals. For example, he would never shrug nor cross his arms to get a point across. His face is very capable of emoting though, and that's something that comes naturally with this body and his personality.

Bit isn't a character complex enough to be deceitful, nor was he ever meant to be. For this reason he can't hide his emotions and moods very well. Just like how his original form changes colour and shape when he's displaying negative or positive feelings, his normally blue eyes will turn red when he is being negative, and gold if he's being positive. This preserves his easy readability; doubly so considering he lacks a lot of understanding on how to use body language. Furthermore, when especially pleased, aroused or sensitive, he will blush – a lot – since programs turn pink when they're turned on (~sexually~).

Other character notes: he's easily scared (which makes sense, since he's so much smaller than everything else on the Grid, and used to being shot at), he's also stubborn, opinionated, likes attention, and even given his limited speaking abilities, is universally  seen as being kind of snarky.

No articles exist on that.]) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bit (general info on what a bit is, IRL)

Abilities:
Being from a computer, he is capable of making very quick calculations and work through complicated equations. He is also somewhat familiar with how different machinery works, even if he has never seen the machine / vehicle before. Bit can also read and write in binary code, and understand different languages (though he only believes he can say “yes” and “no”). In his original form he can fly, but as a human (barring special events) he can't. Bit also knows his way around tanks having belonged to a program that owned and operated one. Because he is still partly digital, like the other programs of the Grid, he can still use energy to heal / energize himself, but his new body makes the process pretty inefficient. He will be able to syphon electricity from anything that produces electrical light (Ex: light bulbs but not wall outlets) and turn it into energy or general health (think HP points). The stronger the watts, the more power he'd get. Static electricity will tickle him and have the same effects as caffeine, giving strong but with short lived adrenaline. None of these rejuvenating powers will be as effective as actual food or rest though since his body is still mostly human. Oh, and Bit's blood glows red while it's fresh.

Possessions:
Boring, lame, nonlight-up clothing that he hates.
First-Person Sample:
[The video turns on to reveal a person with a mop of brown hair who is still young enough to be slightly androgynous at certain angles. The kid smiles a wide, honest, toothy grin, declaring a triumphant:]

Yes.

[Then he frowns at the screen as if he's trying to understand something, muttering under his breath.]

No. No. No...

[His face lights up again, and then the text feature is activated, displaying the following binary code:]

01001000 01000101 01001100 01001100 01001111 00101110 00100000 01011001 01000101 01010011 00111111

Third-Person Sample:

The 360 scan of the area was coming back glitched because Bit was getting no readings at all.

He opened his eyes and that was when he knew something was wrong. For one thing, he'd never had eyes before.

“No,” he said to the empty field. This was wrong.

His voice came out soft but the sound and movements were jarring. The word was synthesized with tongue, mouth, and breath; all things that were new to him. “No,” he said again, just to get a feeling for the word.

As he spoke, he pressed both (new) hands to his cheeks (also new) in tandem and squeezed and pressed at the unfamiliar flesh there. When he was done exploring how malleable his face was, his hands drifted to his hair and it caused him to pause. What was this and where was his helmet?

None of this made any sense. How and why had he been upgraded into a program?

He would have asked someone, or tried to at least – what with his limited speech capabilities – but looking around, he saw that he was alone. Up ahead though, he could make out the shape of a dull, circuit-less city. It was eery the way the buildings stood naked and without any glowing lines, but still, a building was a building, and that meant that there would be other programs using them.

The stillness of the environment didn't bother him much either. Ever since the MCP took control of the systems, programs had made themselves – or been made to be – sparse.

Taking a tentative step towards the city, Bit was all at once pleased that he could coordinate the movement of his new limbs and offended at his body's apparent desire to abide by the laws of gravity.

Was this a 'Yes' or a 'No' situation?

“No,” he decided out loud, this was definitely a 'No.'

He took another step, and then another, and then he was smoothly walking forward along ground covered in a strange green substance he wasn't familiar with. The fabric of his new clothing brushed and rubbed against his skin and he was forced to stop. If he held perfectly still, he almost couldn't feel the cloth and he didn't like how rough and constricting it felt.

Tugging at his disappointingly dull shirt with both hands, he realised he didn't know how to remove it.
Notes: All things considered, Bit has very limited canon, but the original film script showed that it did possess some personality. The way it talks and is able to add emphasis or chose to supply opinions even when not asked, also lend to the idea that it possess personality. Because Tron: Evolution and Tron: Legacy are direct sequals to Bit's cannon, certain canon elements are borrowed and extrapolated from there.
