i'm not really over here any more - there's some chance i might be over at wearemany.dreamwidth.org more often (MAYBE) so if that's your thing, add me there.

argh.

so i've been away from livejournal for SO LONG, and i went back today to catch up and even when i took all the RSS feeds and communities off my friends list, it will only load posts going back to about skip=30 and then... either it won't load at all or it jumps back to last august. anyone know a way around this?

for less sporadic confused posts from me, i'm on tumblr at dazzlingheroes.
9th-Dec-2013 03:40 pm - new fic
sn cruel april
i wrote three hockey stories, mostly because of this tweet:

Young Buck
LA Kings: Mike Richards/Tanner Pearson
He didn’t get over an embarrassing series of adolescent crushes on hockey players by going out and finding a girlfriend.

Play Fair
LA Kings: Mike Richards/Tanner Pearson, Mike Richards/Jeff Carter, Tanner Pearson/Linden Vey/Tyler Toffoli (sort of)
Whoever got a point gets to take their pants off first.

Hot Streak
LA Kings: Jeff Carter/Mike Richards
Mike comes over around two, just like he said he would.

more rambling about these guys over at my tumblr.

sn cruel april
it's been so long since i wrote fic that i barely knew how to format it, let alone where to promote it.

for all 12 of you still reading livejourna, here you go:

This Ain’t No Disco [read @ AO3]
Hockey RPF. LA Kings. Mike Richards/Jeff Carter. Explicit.

“You’ll do anything you can not to have that feeling again,” Richards said.

After the trades, before the Cup. But also before all that.

and also i finally made a fannish tumblr - wearemany was long gone, so i'm dazzling heroes (from the same poem). if you have no idea who these dudes are, there's a bunch of posts i made this morning with all my favorite inspiring GIFs and articles and videos.

my rainy day self-imposed ficlet challenge:

i have all these ~~~feelings~~~ about fannish things and can't figure out how to write anything long and weighty about it.

but: if you give me a pairing you know/think i like, i'll tell you what moment of theirs i could write a million words about and why.

follow-up to the last post of woe and fannish apocalypse planning:

i am on pinboard as wearemany, and i'll probably keep using my delicious as a tool to save bookmarks in hopes they unfuck them at some point in the near future - but also they'll be synced daily at pinboard.

here's a nifty tool for finding your delicious network on pinboard. add me over there if you want to see what i'm reading that i think is worth re-reading (these days mostly suits, but it varies).

i threw my little suits fic up on AO3 this week and it's already gotten more kudos and comments there than on LJ, which makes me think some of that fannish discovery via tags is happening quite well over there. so in the spirit of being a good fan citizen, i'll continue to take requests for my LJ-bound fic that you'd like to see in the archive, long or otherwise. (here's what i have up right now. here's all my fic i know i've posted somewhere at some point.)

and now: new TV. i am already sad about the playboy club being cancelled, which in addition to its bevy of bunnies was far more noir and chicago-y than i'd expected. i'm also already ridiculously hooked on both revenge (basically a jackie collins novel, or gossip girl murder mystery, but i don't really care) and the secret circle (straight up dawson's creek with witches; still don't care; slightly wondering if i should finally take gigantic's advice and watch the vampire diaries given these last two shows). i still feel powerfully ambivalent about the pilot of american horror story and its paranormal horror-to-humans i'm invested in ratio, but i suspect i'm likely to keep watching at least long enough to see zach quinto.

who wants to come talk to me about any of those or is watching something else this fall that you think i might like?

(also accepting: novels i should read.)
27th-Sep-2011 10:48 pm - what's next?
the wire mcnulty
for a couple years now, delicious has been my most regular, prolific and public fannish expression - due to a combination of being busier and more focused on other writing, i was rarely posting more than a list of "stories i should write" here on LJ. but i read a ton - new fandoms, new-to-me fandoms, old favorites. and the busier i got, the more i really valued having an easy, efficient way to find and share good stories.

i really handwave most platform/product changes and this is like poking a wound still, like i just caught myself five different times thinking "oh on delicious i have a link for..." and then being SO FUCKING SAD to realize how that's not really all that useful. and especially all the fannish stuff that's not just about tracking my own links - i could use instapaper for that, i guess - but finding the best of the best for any new indulgence or hobby.

here are some more constructive ideas i'm considering, assuming the new delicious doesn't decide to start caring about things like tags that don't work and five years worth of bundles that got eaten:

+ my diigo account - you can add me there if you've been reading my delicious and i'll figure out how to update my imports (i did it in late 2010, apparently) and be sure anything new i can manage to find goes there for now.

+ ex-pat delicious fannish types are gathering here at diigo - seems like a good place at least to regroup and share links short-term.

+ i'm considering pinboard - it doesn't seem to support tag bundles either (but i like how clearly they explain what you can/can't do), fandom-friendly and supposedly better TOS - plus a one-time fee of $10-ish dollars seems reasonable-ish (i assume fandom will raise some kind of scholarship funds if necessary). let me know if you plan to join over there.

please leave other smart ideas in comments - i know fandom (like all media-based anything) is more niche and segmented than it used to be, but i've never known a more resourceful group of folks.

ETA: here's a reason to love the internet again: a google spreadsheet (seems to open anonymously) i found linked on pinboard's twitter where "the great delicious migration" is tracking its own mass movement to new platforms.

ETA2: from comments - in delicious, change the / in a tag to a period in the tag box to return same results - frank.gerard will display your frank/gerard links.

ETA3: very very belatedly (i know it's been 24 hours but a release like this should have been communicated about weeks in advance) delicious has put up a blog to track its fixes/improvements.

The Best Version of Yourself
Suits. Mike/Harvey. 4550 words. Based on Tom Ford's five rules for a modern gentleman.

read below or at AO3.

You work in a world of suits.Collapse )
14th-Aug-2011 11:58 am - name this art!
zachquinto
i asked this over at usa_suits, but in hopes i know someone with a keen eye who may not be watching that show at all (WHAT WHY NOT), i thought i'd try here.

a piece of art in Harvey's office caught my eye this week - it looks so familiar, but I can't figure out how to even Google it. i'm kind of obsessed with how carefully and distinctly decorated each of the lawyers' offices are on this show and i could swear i've seen some very similar work before.

i'm hoping someone might be able to ID the artist if not the specific piece.

me and the pacific 2
dear livejournal,

it's our 10th anniversary today! i admit i realized this kind of by accident, as you have been hard to pin down lately. but you're back, and we've had some great times together, so i'm going to focus on the good times.

i never kept any kind of consistent diary or journal before you, even in my angstiest teenage and college years. but since we've been together i've become a person who takes the time to write down at least a little something trivial - but also, let's be honest, more than a few long, soul-searching essays - basically every single week. or sometimes several times a day.

in the last decade i've made some of my closest friends in the world because of you, or kept people i've known even longer closer than i could have imagined. and no matter where else i might wander off to, none of the other places feel like home the way you do.

ten years from now i fully expect to be jet-packing around through space and time and using some fancy iThink device that reads my mind and spits out perfectly constructed sentences with none of my usual parentheticals. but we'll always have this first decade to look back on. you've barely changed, but you've always been there.

xoxo,
we.
