Modern Datacenter Technology News, Analysis & Resources — Since 2004
This isn’t a general tech blog. VMblog is a laser-focused, niche authority in all things modern datacenter — built by a practitioner, trusted by practitioners.
Founded in 2004 by David Marshall, a recognized industry veteran with 25+ years in the virtualization and cloud space and a VMware vExpert since 2009, VMblog has never chased trends or pivoted away from its mission. That editorial consistency is exactly why its audience keeps coming back — and why advertisers see real results.

About the Founder
VMblog.com was founded and is owned and operated by David Marshall, a seasoned technology professional whose career in virtualization and cloud computing stretches back to 1999 — making him one of the longest-tenured independent voices in the space.
David’s interest in virtualization began with early hands-on work with VMware Workstation and Connectix products, which quickly evolved into a professional focus. He worked directly alongside VMware software engineers during the alpha development of VMware ESX Server, giving him rare ground-floor insight into what server virtualization could become. That expertise translated into a career helping Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 companies implement virtualization solutions at scale.
A VMware vExpert (2009–present), David is also a published author and technical editor with four books to his name:
- “VMware ESX Essentials in the Virtual Datacenter” — CRC Press (ISBN: 1420070274)
- “Advanced Server Virtualization: VMware and Microsoft Platforms in the Virtual Datacenter” — Auerbach Publishing (ISBN: 0849339316)
- “Virtualization for Dummies” (Technical Editor) — Wiley (ISBN: 978-0-470-14831-0)
- “VMware VI3 for Dummies” (Technical Editor) — Wiley (ISBN: 978-0-470-27793-5)
VMblog was launched as David’s way of tracking and sharing what was happening across the industry — and two decades later, that mission hasn’t changed. What started as a personal project became a publication that hundreds of thousands of IT professionals rely on every month.
